i have exactly $50...no more.

i am looking for a fixed blade, about a four inch blade. a convex edge, or one that would not be too hard to make into a convex edge. a flat grind would be okay too i guess...

i will be doing some general woods things with it, camp chore type stuff.

i was thinking of a mora or maybe the gerber freeman hunter...i also like traditional style blades.

thanks ahead of time for the help

oh yes...if i could pick it up locally, like at the Dick's Sporting Goods store, that would be good...no shipping and handling that way...

I would do a search for a good Mora. You should be able to find one for about 10 bucks online and then shipping won't be a problem. They usually all come with an injection molded sheath and can take plenty of abuse. Break it, buy a new one and no hurt feelings. Most all come pretty dull though, so you'll have to put an edge on it yourself.

Besides the Mora, you might consider the Ahti #9601 Finman, about halfway down the page. I was real impressed with the blade on this.

Check out the medium Lappland Puukko, also within your budget and a real knife, not a throwaway utility. Continue down the page to the 4" Safety Grip Puukko with Kalevala Sheath also, and further down for the utility Puukko. For a more traditionally American look, go to the Scout and Hunting Knives.

thanks for the suggestions.....i think i might end up getting one of the traditional red handled moras...
