This may be good for kitchen knives, but I doubt you could maintain Buck's edge with that. Nothing beats a bench stone and good sharpening skills.

ok to explain ...
first i know how to sharpen a knife and can do so very well

what i was looking for was a sharpener that some one with out
full use of one arm or hand could use to sharpen a knife ok ?
and this seemed a "tool" that they could use to keep their edge nice with
as they are not able to use a normal steel

so now you know why and what i am looking for
any one got any ideas?
ps btw: it is for some one you guys might know so any help is nice.

OK

I've used an older model of the Wusthof for kitchen knives (when I don't want to take them to a bench but need a quick fix) and I've found it to work well, as long as you hold the blade correctly at the right angle. I suppose it could work on a Buck outdoors knife:

I guess I should add that I've only used the Wusthof diamond electric sharpener for Wusthof kitchen knives and for that it works well.

It would be interesting to hear what a Buck representative would say about using this on a Buck knife.

This looks similar to what you post:

I have seen the warthog demo'ed at shows before and thought it was a slick design.

Have you thought about the Lansky system with the mount? That could be done 1 handed as I understand it. Proven and less money if you pick up stones on sale or the secondary market. I think many of us have them sitting around unused, I know I have a few that I just never got to over the years.

wolf i looked at that one and a few others with elect
not quite
the V sharp is close .. and about the same price as the plastic one
it is close to what i was looking for...

I may be a mutant, but I sharpen my knives with one hand (left hand only). If I fixed the stone to a table I wouldn't need my free hand.

Another thought.

I went to a gun show in Houston yesterday and saw a demonstration of the Warthog Blade Sharpener which ohen cepel mentioned above. It appears to be somewhat similar to the one Dave is referencing. I used it to sharpen my 303 and it did a very good job in a short period of time. A friend of mine that accompanied me actually purchased one, so I'll likely have the opportunity to try it out more in the future. Below is a link:
