It's big.

No, it's really big.

It's wide.

No, it's really wide.

And it's thick.

It's also really sexy.

Wider than any folder I've owned, longer than the Gayle Bradley and 0550 (both are actually the same overall length. Perspective is weird), the blade stock is thicker than any of the other pictured knives, and it came sharper out of the box than any knife I've ever purchased - and we're talking over 150 knives, ranging from $8-$450, Spyderco, Benchmade, Strider, CRKT, Cold Steel, ZT/Kershaw, and more. I've handled polished edges that were less sharp.

It's a little stiff to disengage, but the lockup is insane. Literally zero play. You can't make it wiggle or flex if you try. It's kinda surprisingly not as smooth as one might expect from a bearing flipper, but it does rocket out with ease and makes a hell of a CLACK when the lock engages.

It's also a brick. It weighs over 7 ounces - but it doesn't feel like it does in the hand. It's extremely well balanced.

I love this knife, but I haven't decided whether I'm going to carry it or not. It's very comfy in hand EXCEPT for the pocket clip - and this is the revised pocket clip. It's still pointy for no reason. It's not terrible, but if you really gorilla grip the knife, you'll feel it. That's not the deciding factor for me, though - the dilemma is whether or not I want to sell it or not. It's really almost too big for me. I'm not a small man, either - this knife is just damned BIG. It's like having a sharp spaceship in my pocket.

In my experience, Microtech bearing knives have the most drastic break in of any knives I've owned. It will get much smoother, I think my Mini Matrix is my smoothest knife and I have knives with IKBS, caged bearings, and even aftermarket bearings.

Awesome post man I'm planning on buying a D.O.C. soon I just need to sell some other things first.

I have found that the smoothness of a bearing flipper is more dependent on the strength of the lock bar and not so much the bearings it uses. The resistance is created by the detent ball rubbing on the tang of the blade as it rotates out of the handle. Reducing lockbar pressure can greatly reduce this drag. But there is a balance. Back it off too much and you will have lock up problems and a weak detent. CRKT seems to have got it down though. My foresight has a larger detent ball than most bearing flippers I own. I can only assume that by having a larger ball it compensates for the lower lockbar pressure by having to use more force to get the ball to pop out of the blade tang. It is also the smoothest of all bearing knives I have ever owned. The only one that even comes close is my 0777 m390

I like the beefiness, I should get my hands on one at the next gunshow I go to. Will be nice to see how it compares to the ZT 0560.

I agree wholeheartedly that the smoothness is more due to the lock. However, in my own personal experience my Mini Matrix started out gritty and rough, but became wonderfully smooth over a few hundred flips. My CRKT IKBS knives start out flipping great, and stay great :) I was merely saying that he should expect it to get a little smoother over time, sorry for any confusion!

It looks like the illegitimate stepson of the SMF and a Whaleshark. Big, bad, and bold. Enjoy.

I love mine. This one is not quite as heavy due to the carbon fiber.

It also has the strongest detent I've ever experienced on a one handed folder.

I'd have to agree there I handled that beauty at a gun show last week and I couldn't open it for the life of me so I set it back down closed and walked away awkwardly.

Does anyone know a maker who is making modified clips for this model? I want a new clip, so I can keep the old one for posterity.

Thanks.
