Just got the Benchmade 710 in D2 and Grip 550 Serrated, today. And in Iceland that's major news, very hard to come by and very expensive. Cost me 354$ in all.

Both are intimidating knives.

The 710 is a large knife, larger than I expected, very solid looking and doesn't say much when closed almost shy but a slim beast when open. The handle is very plane and the two stripes are not too much and not too little, a dash of character.

I almost didn't like it at first and was a tad dissapointed. It grew on me but still now I expected more, just that tiny little something more. The blade is too small where it meets the handle on top, my thumb doesn't rest on the spine, but then on the other hand I love how the blade and handle become one on the Grip under your thumb.

The movement of the blade and the entire function of the knife, lock included is in my opinion, perfect, a work of art and the why I love collecting these marvelous things.

The Grip 550 in 154 cm is in design a workhorse where the 710 is a finebred racehorse in every aspect of it's design.

I have the Mini Grip and it is different. The large one feels plastic whereas the small one feels solid.

I have still to find my perfect knife, the one that just feels excactly right and I will not stop until it has been found, and a few more.

The Mini Pika is alot like the Delica 4 and I liked the Delica better, don't have but have tried it.

Tried the Vex too and that felt real good. Would have taken it if it had had the Axis.

My next ones will be the Apparition 672 and the 10505 Rant.

I have 28 now in all of all sorts, all quality.

Congrats on the new Benchmades

Have fun with them.

The 710 D2 is no doubt the next knife I'll be picking up :D

Someone will correct me if I am wrong, but I believe that the reason the Mini-Grip feels solid and the full size grip does not is because the mini has liners and the full size, strangely, does not.

The full Grip has liners---but they only go 2/3 to 3/4 to the back-----the mini Grip has full length liners.

Yeah... they both have liners at least part way down the handles. I think another thing that causes the different feel is the size of the texturing on the scales. The mini-Grips have a much finer (smaller) texture pattern. That's a better feel to me than the larger texture on the full size Grip scales. The larger pattern just doesn't have the "quality" feel that the snaller pattern has even though they are the same material.

Today I'm carrying a 556 in 440C. This was one of my first Benchmades (I now have more than 20) and it's a great little knife.

I've got a 14205 on the way from NGK. Looking forward to that one! :D

My favourite Benchmade? mmm.. hard to say. The M2 Grips are up there.. and the 806-701.. and the Presidios..and the 943 ;)
