I just got done comparing the new mark IV to the other one piece I have. I did some measurements and I was surprised by a couple. Since I sold my project II, I dont have that to compare it to, but I still have my pachmayr which is the same size as the project I and has the same dimensions. The pachmayr measures 1/4 thick with a 7 1/2" blade and weighs 15 ounces. The mark IV measures 3/16" thick, 7" blade and weighs 11 ounces. Comparing the two in hand, you can definately notice how much lighter the mark IV is. I think for use in the field, doing cutting chores it will perform great. The sawback is slightly wider than the sawteeth on the jereboam I, which I love. The jereboam I is 1/4" think, but has sawteeth aprox. 1/8" Kinda hard to saw with that I would think. The mark IV is 3/16" and the sawteeth are almost as wide making the sawback much more useful. I dont know how the lighter weight would aid in chopping, though I think you would have less hand fatigue. The mark IV has the thinner 3/16" blade of the 5.5" line of the shadow IV, MKVI, mountaineer II, etc. You get that light weight with a blade that is 1 1/2" longer, plus with a sawback, makes it that much more useful. The mark IV guard is alot narrower than the much wider one on the project, pachmayr, etc. I think CRK hit a home run with their final One Piece offering. I really really like it. I give it :thumbup: easily. I am going to put this in a thread as I am sure the measurements will be very helpful and will interest others.....PM me anytime, as you can see I love talking about the One Piece lineup, my all time CRK Favorite !!!
Thanks, Tom

The MKIV looks like a winner Tom. That's great that the MK IV has the thinner blade stock of the 5.5" knives. As much as the thicker knives (e.g., Project I and II) are fun to hold and feel so solid in hand, the thinner stock is probably better for most cutting tasks.

I was hoping to not spend $400 on the MK IV, but you've tempted me again, darn it. ;)
