Hey folks, just hung out with a friend watching "Night of the Running Man"
scoping out some blades and bringing my meager collection. Just wanna share some thoughts.
The Emerson Commander and trainer. Lighter and smaller than I thought and relatively simple in design IMHO. Very good grip, I can't say if it's better or worse in terms of grip than the CQC 7 just different.
The blade heavy trainer is good but I think the Gunting trainer has a bit more detail. Nevertheless, I'd tape my focus mitts if using either.
The Perrin La Griffe, small but sweet with a great grip. It was as I expected, I would definitely use it for utility and leave my EKI La Griffe for fighting. I personally would get a thicker La Griffe for ice pick
grip.
The Crawford KFF, a tank that dwarfed the Commander with a superb grip and smooth as silk. Worth the $. The Crawford Neck knife was smaller than expected albeit pointier than similar models like the Dozier Razorback.
ATS-34 Carnivour, I've seen the Talonite version and it wasn't that sharp but I liked the grip. This model was sharper and action was good, still love the grip.
Neil Blackwood American Ninja and Grifter.
The Ninja was much smaller in appearance but I feel it is more size efficient though I'd like a longer finger groove. The Grifter was my favorite of the two and I'd still like a more prominent finger groove on it as well.
Mike Snody and RJ Martin. Excellent pieces particularly the tantos with 5" or more blades. This could make me a tanto convert and the magnetic sheath system was a cool surprise. Thick and sharp.
DA LCC, ah the third time and still something new and still I think good UTILITY knife.
JSP Wallet and Checkbook. I've bought a Checkbook for a friend and overall I still feel that the plastic lined wallet and checkbooks were great. The CC blade ah, yet again meeting it for the 3rd time and I must say that the clip on the CC blade is bigger than most money and belt clips. Robust and smooth, well thought out. Personally, I'm in denial about the CC blade and may try it again one day. However, I find my Spydercard more than adequate as a wallet knife. Manrikigarrote. Unobtrusive and stiffer than I thought or like, the titanium teardrops concave shape threw me off but I don't doubt it can sting.
JSP V Stat Bag. I've always been a fan of JSP's carry systems I have a V Gar belt,
a Horizontal Belt Sheath and now a Stat Bag. There are about 3 compartments and plenty of velcro attachments to wear this rug under the shoulder and plenty of space for a palm pilot. The only attachment that gave me a problem was the flashlight holder as my Streamlight Scorpion couldn't slide in as easily. I personally prefer a chest strap over the shoulder rig and the belt/trousers attachment pin to be a little longer.
Polkowski Bulldog, Companion, Scorpion, and Bodyguard. Each had a similar micarta handle to the new Busse Battle Mistress, serviceable but I like it grippier/rougher. The Companion was my favorite as well as the KFF.
Spyderco Matriarch and CF Plain Civilian. I thought both would be bigger, I'm no big fan of CF but I can live with it on the
Civilian. The Matriarch had a stronger tip for me and it was more the EDC piece for me.
