I apologize in advance for the poor picture quality. I will hopefully learn to take better pictures.

I just laid my old hunting coat on the bed and put some knives on it.

Here goes...

101.jpg

Top to bottom:

1. Ruana of some kind. I bought it for 40 bucks at a local gun show. It has a Ruana sheath in good condition with it.

2. Marbles Fieldcraft in 52100. This is absolutely my favorite skinning knife of all time for deer. Cuts like no other, and takes a fantastic edge.

3. Old Timer, I believe it was called a Deerslayer when I ordered it out of a catalog nearly 30 years ago. That knife was my childhood/teenage walkabout knife. The Lord only knows how many miles I walked and rode horseback in the Ozark Mountains with that old blade strapped to my side.

4 and 5. Schrade Walden hunting knives. Good using blades that take and hold a good edge.

6. A sweet Lee Reeves piece I bought off him several years ago. 52100 and takes a vicious edge.

7. A Marbles Ideal I gave almost nothing for.

I have a great fondness for old slippies with carbon steel blades.

The top three:

1. Old Timer Bearshead Trapper

2. Schrade Walden Trapper

3. Case XX jack knife...somebody may know a more precise name for it. It is an oldie, with half stops and a stout, stout, stout backspring.

Middle three:

1.Schrade Walden

2. Camillus

3. Another old Case

Bottom two:

1. An old Schrade birdseye...That was my edc when I was a teenager, and still at times. There is no telling how many coons, possums, groundhogs, squirrels, rabbits and even deer I used that knife on. It also castrated a few hundred head of bull calves. I would carry it more but I am sentimental about it and afraid of losing it. I want one of my sons to have it one day.

2. An old Camillus carpenter's jack, I believe they are called.

Very nice!! Love seeing knives that have been used....I'm with ya on the carbon steel too.

What it the stamping on that Camillus knife? It appears to have a very long matchstrike pull and a sabre ground blade. Any chance of a close up photo? They sometimes called that a whittler too, and made a lot of them for BSA. Thanks for showing the knives Coonskinner, your collection looks like a labor of love with a lot of miles.

It does have a very long pull and a sabre ground clip blade.

Here is a picture up close...maybe I can do better later.

I'm getting ready to walk out the door for church this morning.

The stamping is Camillus, with new York under that, and USA under that.

The scales are black jigged bone, and there is a number 72 on the tang of the main blade.

It's a big stout knife, and really cuts great.

I have a lot of confidence in that knife.

I don't doubt it. When my best friend and I go on snowshoe dayhikes, we each pack a sharpfinger (he's not a knife guy so he gets my backup) I would love to pack one of those deerslayers for our trips but can't find an affordable one. I envy you having such a great knife with some very cool memories to go with it.:cool:

Wonder what it's worth?

I like the old knife, but have no huge sentimental attachment to it.

Gosh, in mint shape, they were $800-1200. I'd guess atleast 1/2 that for a moderately used one. They have jumped up shockingly high.

How hard are they to come by these days?

I'd love to pick up a couple for my boys.

This one accompanied me on a lot of adventures. :)
