Well, I got dragged into work today for a server problem so I didn't get to the Wolverine show. After work my wife and I went to visit my parents and we stopped at our favorite antique/consignment store.

One of the guys had a display of vintage pieces and just happened to be there for some negotiating...

I ended up walking out with 5 pieces that I'm pretty happy with. I feel like I stole them because on top of an amazing price he gave me a 10% quantity discount :)

On box: Mint/unused 1977 Gerber Folding Sportsman III, mint box, all paperwork and a 1977 Gerber product line brochure. Shows original foil stamp with $32.50 price (fairly steep 25+ years ago!)

Top: 1930's era Schrade Wire Jack, dead mint condition with the Bridgeport Conn stamp. Blade etched "Barney Machinery Co., Pittsburgh PA"

Middle: Schrade Cut Co gents folder. Very little use, blades are about 90% with no shrinking or cracking of the bone scales. For a knife this old I'm amazed at how well it walks & talks, better than many new knives.

Upper right: Case Split Back Whittler, near mint with some minor peppering on the blades. Perfect QC with tight action and orginal unused factory edge. This is an XX 5 or 6 dot, can't make out one of the dots for sure.

Bottom: The neatest one of all (IMO) is a 1977 Gerber Skookum. Double blade slip joint, 440c blades & it's dead mint. This thing has got to be pretty rare because I can't find much about it anywhere. I don't know what kind of collector value it has but it's really itching to go in my pocket!

I know some history on most of these knives except the Schrade bone one, if anyone can provide details on it (or any of the others) I'd love to hear them.

More than anything I just thought I would share.

:D

If you post that picture here in the Schrade forum, I'll bet you get some history help. Also, if you do, type in the exact tang stamp for best results.

I know you missed the show, but you did quite well, I'd say. Nice finds.

Thanks guys!

El Lobo, I'm working on a post for the Schrade forum now, thanks!

That Schrade gents knife is a great find. Very cool Gerber Skookum, never seen one before. Thanks for sharing.

I just love to hear about things like this. It makes me want to get out to my favorite haunts and go on a search. ;) These events make the hobby that much more fun. Thanks for sharing. :) Somewhere out there is a CASE MFG Warren Pa just waiting for me to find it. :D

I know what you mean, I've been thinking of going back ever since to make one more scan of his pile to make sure I didn't miss any goodies!

He had a ton of old straight razors for $3-$15, I was thinking of picking up a couple but I know zero about them.

Bob, I never would have known the model name of this knife if the 1977 brochure had not been in there. It's a really net knife in person, more so than the picture shows.

Do both blades share the same backspring? Is that small blade hard to get out? It looks like it might sit pretty far down in the body when it is closed.

No, they have separate back springs.

I'll shoot some pictures or scans of it closed tonight and put them up. It's really not hard to get it open although it does sit pretty deep IIRC.

You may have done better than if you had gone to the show!
1977?
Cool, that's the year I got married :)
