Tha pattern in the first one is a W pattern, I learn it from Fisk's "Progessive Photographs of making a Damascus W pattern Sendero"(http://www.fisk-knives.com/Progressive_W_pattern_Sendero.htm)
I figure it turn out like that because of a small numer of layers (9) from whitch I began the billet, or... who knows?
