Alright...yes sry another ?.....i did use the search and did a lot of reading on this topic...now im looking either for some advice or help.....I would need a knife that I would wear on my uniform while on a 25' boat...some times we get in the water for rescue or other situations....salt water splashes on the knife under waves and the speed we tend to travel....this is more of a light salt water coverage which is why im leaning more toward ATS-34 or CMP 154....and 440C is in the back of my mind....This knife needs to be something i can rely on to save some ones life or even my own...I doubt i will use it for prying but who knows....i know ATS-34 and CMP 154 are "equivalent" but not... they are similar...is the slight differences make one more better for my application?

Part 2.....if anyone has any ideas as a knife for me please feel free i love your input....I prefer smaller blades 3"-5" ish.... a decent grip just in case i am wearing gloves or in water...nothing to bulky though...this is something i have had some friends experience (Not shinny)...shinny attracts fish and things i dont care for...things that like me as bait....

I will add on once more questions/comments arise...THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

I don't think you said so, but it sounds like you are wanting a fixed blade?
What kind of budget do you have?

I don't believe there is a corrosion resistance difference between ATS34 and CPM 154. Neither is as corrosion resistant as 440C, which is not as corrosion resistant as 440A.

Don't have too much input on a particular knife. There are others here who would know more about knives for marine applications.

Benchmade has fixed blade dive knives in H1 and X15T.N steel. They will not rust. Spyderco has folding knives and will be coming out with fixed blade versions also in H1. The Boker Orca and Beluga dive knives are also fixed blade X15T.N steel. The Boker Ti-mariner is a fixed blade titanium dive knife. And look at Mission Knives for a good dive knife selection.

I would suggest that you look at something from the Spyderco Salt Series, as they will NOT rust!! They are excellent knives!!

yes, spy's salt series would be good. 440's aren't to bad. Stay away from ats34 and 154CM. These are great steels, but are not good at rust resistance in salt water, I know this for fact. I totally rusted an ats34 blade in short order. One salt water outing in and around the water for 3 days.

A serrated yellow Atlantic Salt...hard to lose in yellow....serrated H1 holds an edge as well as serrated VG10 but will not rust no matter what.

I would give a look in the direction of Mission Knives. In a folder, you could snag a few of the Spyderco offerings that offer the above mentioned salt series. These knives don't seem to be prone to rusting even in the most wet environments.

Here is another vote for the Spyderco Salt series! They are pretty impressive!

The Boye Cobalt folders might be another good alternative.

Another option would be to have a knife made out of Talonite or Stellitte, both are Cobalt alloy's and won't rust.

Remember that any knife you use by the water has a very high chance of falling in and you will never see it again. Make sure that you get the best quality knife but I wouldn't want to see $100+ fall into the drink.

Here's Floating knives if it DOES end up in the drink.

Yuppers, I couldn't agree more!!

If you CAN, get a Tom Mayo Covert; it is a completely rust proof knife. It is a custom.

I think costco had a fairly cheap Dive knife on their website not to long ago...

I think its Gerber that makes a couple fairly cheap wet environment knives for rafting and canoeing, more boat work than dive work. Theres also the Trident.

I like the benchmade and Spydies. Puruse through a Diving Store online for additional ideas too...

Ontario MK3 Navy dive knife. Also, Seal teams are using some smaller Winoka models in beta ti.

Don't pass up Mission's Titanium knives. At least give them the once-over.

I agree about Mission Knives, they are fantastic!! I had an all titanium MP3 that I loved.

Look up "Myerchin Dive Knife" fixed blade, with or without separate marling spike.

TKC. HAD a Mission? Say it aint so--- you sold it?! My two Missions are keepers. But I understand. Ya do what ya gotta do.

Folder- Boye Dendritic W. marlinspike

Fixed- if you are going toward rope cutting and prying I don't feel you can go too wrong with Gerber River Shorty. Cheap, good strong handle, serrated edge- only one of 2 Gerbers I would recommend (EZ out os the other but not a water knife).
