Blackberries are still not out over here yet, we get Salmonberries first, then Thimbleberries, Salal and Huckleberries are both next and finally Blackberries !

Great stuff buddy, what knife is that in the top pic ?

Then Saturday night we spotted a young Raccoon in a neighbor's yard. It was very young, looking really thin and tired. I think tending to it to Lisa's mind off of things for a few minutes. She got it to eat a bit and then it fell asleep in the crotch of the tree. Sorry...it was just after sunset so the lighting was a little hard to deal with.

Sounds like you guys have a lot more berries there than we do here in this area. I'm really looking forward to the muscadines.

That's the D.F. I got from Dylan, I love this knife. I need to see about getting a kydex sheath made for it for tip-up carry on my pack strap and see how it does there.

Good pics. The raccoons are usually a pain around my area, but recently have not done much. My mom always tells me to shoot them when they get in the garbage, but when they are just out there she insists on how cute they are.

Thanks man.

Yeah...ya know, it's funny how they can go back and forth between absolutely adorable and utterly annoying.........

sweet pics, bro. i never get sick of seeing wild edibles. as for the raccoon, i watched on the discovery channel that they're very tame when they're babies. once they mature enough to breed is when they become aggressive.

Thanks bro, glad you enjoyed them.

Eh...this one was a little touchy, and growled a bit...looked a little emaciated and acted exhausted and scared. I think I had seen his/her deceased mother a few days ago. He/she did chill a bit and eat though. I was thankful for the distraction for Lisa's sake...it took her mind off of things for a bit.

The green berries with the red/purple stem is poke salad. Berries turn purple at maturity. Be careful. Eat young leaves only. Parts are toxic at different times of the season. Requires multiple water changes. check your books.--KV

Thanks man, I already knew all of that...I suppose in the context of the thread I should have added that info. Thank you for doing so

I'm having a hard time telling how large the fly is. Why didn't you put your knife next to it for a size comparison? :D

Lol, I should have tried. He would have over-hung both sides of a quarter if he stood on one.

Some really cool pics, thanks for posting them. That fly is amazing. I've had my share of raccoons as they come into my yard and dig up the lawn and pillage our fruit bushes and trees every summer. This year I have started using coyote urine and it seems to be working since the scent is veiwed as a predator. Nice pics though.

Thanks man.

They do get annoying some times...but couldn't resist trying to help the young one. I may have to try that though.

Great pictures as usual brother! I'm glad you're still getting a lot of use out of that knife. I beat the absolute crap out of mine.

Great pics. that raccoon was too cute :D
Not the faintest clue what these are but man, that and sure seems to like them!

Thanks Bro! Yep, it goes with me a lot...in my RFP at the moment actually as I just got in. It's also featured in the pics from the last hike :) . I'll beat on it some more next hearth board...which may happen soon since we just got a couple of hours of rain and I won't be afraid I'll somehow set the mountain side on fire

Thank you, yeah the little raccoon was adorable. I considered trying to catch it but he/she didn't seem too keen on that idea.

Yep, that little ant was getting plumb romantic with them :)
