I snuck up on this pair of Sand Hill Cranes ...they were very scared of me but yet I was able to Hide behing a tree and peek out and get these shots of these large stately birds which at one time were on the endangered species list but now are making a very nice comeback...they are beautiful..

and then this throwback to the dinosaurs...soaking up some sun..I got as close as I dared ...glad for the telephoto too..I hear these guys can dash for short distances up to 35MPH...:eek:

Maybe the Gator would snap a pic of Ren for us?

I'd just like to document the actual presence of the Beacon in sunny Florida.

You know ... for posterity. Or maybe the Discovery Channel.:D
 
I took some similar pics of those cranes up in Wisconsin... truly beautiful birds, until you get too close to them. Then they turn into giant pissed off T. Rex's and chase ya! Good thing I could still run like a deer in those days!:D Now, I'd have to whip out the Case Peanut and defend myself.

'Gators hold the same rank as grizzly bears in my book. I don't want to be grizzly or gator poop so I keep my distance.
 
long as it's chilly cold your "ok" hot though Gator's faster than an Oompahloompah speed skater from up yonder.They taste like chicken.
 
Any normal looking Floridian with a suntan can walk right up on sand hill cranes. The glare from your day-glo blue-white Michigan skin must have frightened them.:D As for the gator, when you are standing and facing him, he figures that you are a 6 foot tall 4 legged critter that has 7 or 8 feet of ass hanging out back that he can't see, so he will likely leave you alone because you are too big for him to eat. Just don't kneel down next to the water if there is a hungry 10-12 footer around.:eek::D

Those cranes look like those martian bird monsters in the old Bugs Bunny cartoon with the trojan helmeted martian (forgot his name). It was one of my fav. Bugs Bunny cartoons. Cool pictures.
