As I posted about over the weekend (with some weak iPhone photos) I picked up a couple of 3.5" XM-18's last week. Here's some studio photos of them I took for my upcoming review of the Hinderer XM-18 - using a new background too!

Standard "tumbled" finish slicer grind XM-18:

Custom XM-18 with a slicer grind, "two tone" finish you don't often see:

Both have a bead blast finish on the back side:

I'm extremely pleased with both!

As a vol fan, I still want an orange XM but I just couldn't bring myself to put an orange scale on the blue one

As a University of Florida alum, these are the perfect pair of XM-18's to have. :D Actually I've just never been all that partial to orange. I may put my Ti scale on the blue one, and put the blue G10 scale on the other, and put away the orange scale. :)

Orange is my favorite color and fruit. I eat about two of them per day.

So when is your review going to be posted?

Very Nice John, Thank you for the Pics and the new thread. Very cheerful and visually appealing XM's.
I like the combo very much.

Addictive, ain't they?:D

Nice to see the collection grow, Rollie-J. Sweet pair, especially the 2-tone.

Orange scaled XMs are very nice for several reasons. Among them: Every time I rock the orange people notice, but are not threatened. Gives a very purposeful look to the tool in hand.

Thanks! I'd prefer a brushed instead of a bead blasted finish on that custom, but I'll take what I can get now, and trade or sell off later if I find what I'm ultimately looking for. :D

Yeah, I've noticed people tend to be drawn to the orange one. Go figure. :o

The beautiful thing is now that you have a custom (unique), a few options may open to you in the future. No matter what, as of right now, you have several sweet XMs.

I do have a question on the Hinderer knives, are they only available at the big knife show? And here second hand of course, or are they availabe from a dealer? Eric

Hinderer does work with a network of dealers. However, it appears as though every known dealer is out of stock at the moment (from what I can see anyway...). That could and should change any minute as one would assume now that Blade Show is over, dealers should start getting some knives.

OK John, I'll just have to keep my eyes open.

That's the way to do it. Keep a healthy attitude and an open eye. Bookmark a few of the authorized dealers you like the best and check them often. Never know what may pop up.
The shows offer a very good chance at these wonderful creations. It is as fair a system as possible to give many a chance at theses highly sought after knives.
Best of luck and happy hunting.

Excellent shots John! That's an awesome pair of blades. I'm really considering collecting just XM's for a bit. How many do you have in total now?

To this I'll add keep a sense of humor about the secondary market pricing. In the initial stages of my search I refused to consider the possibility of purchasing an XM-18 at above Rick Hinderer's retail price - I didn't see any Hinderer's on the secondary market not priced WELL above retail. So I started contacting the dealers on Hinderer's dealer list and quickly realized the dealers sell them for above "retail" too. So I caved...mine were purchased at above retail prices, but at levels which I feel will allow me to get my money back if need be.
