So...I stopped at my favorite hiking/biking spot, Burroughs Park, to get in a few hours because I really had nothing else to do today. I left my gear and bike in the bed of my truck and stopped by the head before going out on the trail. I went out for about an hour, which is apparently all a fat guy can handle on a mountain bike, and then I noticed that my RC-4 was missing. Now, it was secured with a Tek-Lok on to my pack, so I know it didn't just fall off.

For whatever reason, so punk stole my favorite blade.:thumbdn: A blade I purchased off of this forum. Anyway, I am beyond pissed right now, as I cannot afford another one right now and mine was one of the older ones before RAT changed their name. So...on the off-chance that it comes around, it is a black coated RC-4, greenish handle with green liners. It has mu initials scrawled on the back side of the blade, right by the stamping. If you see it, out the "owner" as a thief.

Thanks!

Mods: sorry if this belongs elsewhere, I just wanted to post it around those most likely to see/recognize the blade.

Oh...Burroughs Park is off of Hufsmith Road in Tomball, TX. So...if any of our North Houston BF members happen to see someone with a new RC-4, check the blade. I'll probably post up some kind of reward for my knife if it is found.

Sorry to hear about your loss, it sucks that there's idiots out there that do this. At least the bike and pack were left alone. I always lock up my stuff, even if I'll be away for just a couple of minutes, you just can't trust the many stupid people on this planet.

Around here the only thing you would have found is an empty truck box, pack in the truck and bike locked to a tie down........30 seconds of prevention.

Not being an afterthought master, I learned the hard way with my Topanga Diamondback years ago....still miss that bike.

Makes me wonder if it wasn't someone walking or bicycling by. Had it been someone in a vehicle they would have taken the whole pack.

Sorry to hear about it. :(

YEa...I know. I just got used to living in a pretty quiet part of the world with relatively love theft. I just now bought a bike lock after riding bikes for over 20 years.

Yea...in retrospect, it would have been pretty easy to just snag it all. That's why taking just the knife seemed kind of odd. It's a good, solid knife, so to take it alone means perhaps the "person" knew what they took. That's why I posted it here.

A friend of mine indignatly lost a tool box from his car
He forgot to mention the car door was open as he 'just' poped back to the house for something
5 minutes later it had gone......

They broke a golden rule... you do not steal items from the back of a pickup. For that matter, you shouldn't steal at all.

But, taking stuff from the back of a pickup is like taking something from a severely handicaped person. You don't do it. I have had people use things from my unlocked tool box on my pickup or grab a bottle of water which I routinely keep in the back of my truck, but I view that as sort of a survival thing.... you do the best you can with what you have.

I've heard that a toolbox in the floor of your car with the door left open... is a good place to keep your spare vipers or other snakes. But you can also fit a bunch of spiders or scorpions in there.

I actually did it with a buzztail snake after my truck got broke into in South El Paso back in the 70s. Worked like a charm, found the truck door open and the box on the ground in the parking lot.The buzztail was gone and never had another problem parking there.

Sorry about the theft. God hates a thief and so do all of us. Yes, probably the thief was on foot or he's have stolen the whole pack. Worst part of thievery is it puts a time and energy cost on the rest of us having to constantly remember to keep our stuff locked up all the time. Stealing off a trailhead is the lowest of the low.

Years ago I had some civil war reenacting gear stolen out of my locked car (they smashed a window to get in, and the car was old). What was weird was that this was old, dusty, intentionally ratty & ragged gear. A dirty ragged blanketroll and stuff, no musket or knife or anything that looked 'resellable'. It looked like a homeless person's bundle. There were a lot of other more expensive cars that weren't broken into, only my old banger. Ticked me off because it seemed senseless and because as a reenactor you spend a lot of time and energy finding just the right ragged stuff.

Anyway, don't mean to hijack your thread, just want to empathize about getting ripped off of gear you care about. If you have your markings on it AND file a police report AND go in person around all the local pawn shops you increase the odds of seeing it again from zero to slim. Post something at the trailhead. You never know, and it's a good reminder to others that the truck beds aren't safe there.
