These were no bigger than 1 1/2" closed length.
Single clip blade of good 1095 Carbon (non locking of course).
Bail
Beaded key chain.
Handles were imitation Mother of Pearl , Yellow, and metal.

These itty bitty knives often had a company logo on them
I want to say Imperial did some and these were Mighty Midgets

I am having a brain fade, and cannot be sure, nor can I recall who else made knives similar to these.

These itty bitty knives were well made, and that blade was sharp!
Oh kids got a big kick out of these, still adults appreciated these and used them as well.

Handiest knife, and these sure came in handy more than most folks realized.

I think we just took for granted, that knife was on a beaded key ring and without thinking, used them.
Not even thinking, just open them cellphone wrapped crackers that came with a salad, or open a bag of peanuts, or realize we cut an article out of the paper, or magazine.

One would be standing there with a No. 2 pencil and it would dawn on them they were sharpening the pencil...

It was not just boys and girls that got excited getting one of these, adults are worse than a little kid getting one of these knives.

Bring them back - please.

This was my first pen knife! I was 9.
It was a Rogers, in imitation MOP.
And I still have the scar on my middle finger, when the razor sharp blade slipped off the sharpening stone.

My mother was not amused.

My mother was not amused.

Mom's are like that...

These need to brought back for us that remember them and used them to preserve and enjoy the memories and sentimental times.

I believe in passing forward as was passed to me.
Traditional ways, lessons, values and skills sets. This little knife is a important part of history and it too needs to be a part of kids life, or new to knife person.

We don't need to lose anymore tradition...

Besides, they are neater than all get out! *yeah!*

I recall them well. I saw ones with company logos on them from feed companies, marine equiptment, and hardware store advertising. I had a couple when I was a kid, and whats left of the rest of my mind is comming up with names like Colonial, and Imperial, to name a few.

All the ones I had were the fake mother of pearl plastic, with the bead chain.

They kind of went along with nickle soda fountain Coke's, cars with tail fins, and balloon tired Schwinn bikes.:)

Today's advertising knives seem to be cheap copies of the Victorinox classic made in some far east place.

I guess that was the main difference between then and now; back then even the cheap stuff had good materials and would function at it's intended task.

I wish I still had all those little knives from back in the day including the ubiquitous Kamp-King with broken scales and blades as dull as a butter knife.

Today's kids don't know what they've missed out on. (Not that I didn't have a teacher or two send a note home in the late 50's early 60's for seeing me take my jackknife out in the classroom for some minor task.)

Today, if their parents would even let them have a slipjoint the kids would be branded as hoodlums. (My own sister has put away a couple slipjoints I gave my young nephew who is well equipped to deal with one. C'est la vie.)

Nicely done, Kerry!

Thank ya Mr. Blues. I'm just usin the search tool to help my fellow man and benefit the kingdom.

BTW, I never get tired of lookin at your avatar...no brag, just fact

I never get tired of looking at and admiring the real thing. Thanks for making it for me.

First, let me sincerely thank you all for replies and for the link of the earlier thread.

Second, It is safe to say, we all share a common interests in out Rights, which include Knife Rights.
We all know it is not a physical thing that does evil, instead the intent of the user with the physical thing.

Knife, gun, baseball bat, bathtub full of hot water, hammer... these things themselves do not do evil, again the intent of the user of these things does evil.

Matthew Vannitias , a member here and on other forums has been giving away inexpensive knives to folks for some time now as some know.

MV's doing this, is in hopes of eradicating some of the misconceptions and misunderstandings about knives, and personal responsibility.

MV, like many of us, grew up with not only these itty bitty knives, knives in general.
Taking them to elementary school, and showing them off, sharing in Show-n-Tell, and sharpening a pencil.

Getting that stupid mustard package open because we grew up with mom's saying-
"Don't use your teeth for that! Use your knife!"

Boy! That dates some of us doesn't it? *wink*

Mainstream Media, (MSM) , and Politics have dumbed down Society.
We have kids growing up and being essentially indoctrinated that "things" such as knives are evil.

It depends on where one lives, and I am speaking of not only the USA, also all over the world, as we have members from other countries.
One of my best Internet friends is in New Zealand for instance.

Internet is Global and I personally get really ticked when one our folks is sharing about something in the UK and folks post "move to the USA".
Yeah, sure, leave families, jobs and everything and just move to the USA.
Oh some have , some have plans to move here and be US citizens, just that kind of thing is not a "drop everything and go" type of deal.

Sticking with the UK, these friends we have in our "community" not only need our help, they are helping us, as what happens to them, has already happened to us here in the USA.

This itty bitty knife, as small as it is, I see being a huge tool in not only educating youth, also adults and working for knife rights.
Not only in the USA, abroad as well.

MV can have a inexpensive knife, a small on sitting on a table in a diner.
It is seen.
It did not jump up and go berserk all by itself.

Maybe he even used it to open a mustard pack, or cellophane wrapped package of two crackers for his salad.
Folks see that, it gets into the brain.

He leaves that knife for the waitress, she picks this up, and it is cute, or neat, or pretty, or...anything but evil.

I believe in passing forward, as does MV, and others around here.
That waitress gets to carrying that knife, using it, is seen using it.
She gets asked about it, or offers a rebuttal if some says "knives are bad".

"No, this cute little knife is the handiest thing!"
and her sharing to another plants the seed to another that eventually sees for them self, not what MSM or some Politician , or School Board "said" , instead the Reality of Rights and personal responsibility.

I do not care how old fashioned and traditional this all sounds, MV does not, and he is younger than I.

The only knife I know that is still made like this, is by B.A.BAllou and it is sold through Jewelry Stores.
It comes in 14karat yellow gold filled, 14k yellow gold and Sterling Silver.

Oh it is worth the price, makes a great gift and all, just WE need the same knife as yesteryear.
I personally want the carbon steel blade, just me, still it was neat seeing that patina, and I prefer non-stainless blades.

Forget this Us vs Them mentality.
Folks within the same community, be it guns , or knives, can and do more harm fighting amongst themselves than those against them.

I know knives cost money, and I know it costs money to advertise.
I want to propose something, and I want folks to think as a community.

While I know it is the practice that if one joins an organization, or buys something , they get a "free gift".
I propose something else.

1. Knife folks, from Production, to Custom, to Internet sellers to anyone in a knife related business all pull together.

Volume means better price, so all these knife related businesses get someone to make these knives.

Everyone gets these from the same source if you will.

Now while the old knives had a logo for advertising, for individual businesses, and all these knife related companies would like to as well - not do so.

Each one - Teach one is what I propose every one of these knives have on them.

It costs money to get the first "logo" or "ad" done and instead of having to pay monies for example Case, Boker, BFC , KnifeRights, A.G.Russel, Ken Erickson, Shing, ...etc, to have "their" knives like these, just one logo for the whole knife community, anywhere in the world.

This knife is legal in the UK as it is in other areas with restrictions.

Getting these knives out:

1. Make available for persons to buy, such as Matthew V does.

2. Have one or two included with a knife purchase, or knife related purchase.

Yes I know these cost money, and I know about the "cost of doing business".

Still if the volume pricing, of everyone knife related, bought the price overall would be less.

I don't know, let us say the itty bitty knife with Each one - Teach one is $3.
(just snagged a dollar amount)

Would you not pay an extra $3, when you ordered a knife from any of the Internet suppliers?
It does not matter which supplier, or what brand of knife you bought, or if
that knife was a Tactical, SAK, Traditional, Multi-Tool, Custom, New Production, or Old Antique.

Grabbing another figure off the top of my head, say 25,000 of these knives are done the first run.

Say only 15,000 of these get passed out, that is still 15,000 itty bitty beaded key chained knifes with Each one- Teach on anywhere in the world sending a message, and passing forward.

It might be mustard pack being opened in the UK, or anywhere in the USA, still a mustard pack being opened in public, is sending a message.

Knife gets left as a tip, in the UK, or anywhere in the world, that message and passing forward is happening.

It does not matter if that knife came from A.G.Russel from someone getting one of his in-house knives, or Ken Erickson, or Shing, or Moore Maker, or just ordered a knife roll, sharpening supplies, or anything.

I mean it would be pretty neat to buy a Case, or Queen, or Buck ....etc, over the counter and one be included, to me anyway it would.

Get a Sodbuster at the Feed & Seed and there that Each one-Teach one is in the box, and that knife gets passed to someone , maybe left at the diner at lunch.

This is getting a bit far afield for this sub-forum and will be better addressed in the "knife law" section of the forums.

The issue is not that your average person does not know what knives are really used for, it is that those in power are determined to have a populace that is totally dependant upon the higher powers.

Then most of us sit by and let these elites pass laws only to complain about it after the fact.

I was told, when I first joined the staff at KnifeRights.org that the hardest group to get motivated into being pro-active to protect these rights were the "knife nuts". I could not believe that that would be the case. Now I have found this to be very true.

The NRA has just over 4 million members, however 10 times that amount say that they support the NRA and believe in what they are doing. I guess they feel by just owning a gun or having a feeling about guns is enough to really help. Hate to break it to you but it is not enough. You need money to become a powerfull P.A.C. (political action committee). Money comes from memberships. The NRA is ONE of the most powerfull PACs, if all those who see themselves as members would actually join, they would be THE MOST powerfull PAC.

This is the exact issue we are facing. Everyone supports what we are doing and says how great they think it is that we were created, but no one want to pony up and do thier part. If we as "knife nuts" continue to let other carry the burdon, we will end up no better off then most of Europe.

While the idea of these little AD Knives is a good one, your money would do more good by becoming a member of a PAC such as KnifeRights.org or the NRA. As I said, we do not need to preach to the average Joe or Jane on the street, we need to put real pressure on the politicians.
