Someone explain to me how this Busse stuff works

Ok, so I'm wanting to order a TGLB. I just sent an email to the orders email address about it. Anyway, I was under the impression that they "retire" models, and that you can only get a few knives they are currently offering. Is this correct? In my email I asked about the TGLB being "retired" because I want to get one of my color choice before it's too late. I'm also interested in a few Swamp Rats and I have the same question- do I need to go ahead and order before they're discontinued?

(One reason I'm asking is because I went to look at TGLBs on the Busse website and all 3 sites (Busse/Swamprat/Scrapyard) are under construction, and I don't want to miss out on them) There are a few other Busse knives I'm interested in (Boss Jack-flat, NMFSH/FSH, Boss Street, others) and from my understanding the only way to get those is on the secondary market. Is that right?

And what's the deal with the custom shop? How can I find out what is being currently offered?

I'm new to Busse/kin (I just got my first Busse off the exchange here)-I just need to figure out how all this works- let me know if there is anything important I'm missing-
--and I'm gonna go ahead and apologize because I'm sure these questions/topics have been beaten into the ground.

Thanks in advance!

I run the Custom Shop so you can always email me about pricing and availability of other models. Just shoot me an email to garth@bussecombat.com and we can discuss the options. As far as when a model gets retired that is determined by Jerry Busse and only he really knows when a model will be retired.

Here's the gist. Busse is a relatively small shop (for a production company) and the best way to use their production resources is to only produce one or two models of knives at a time. These runs last for a few months and they'll take all the orders they can get while they're in that run, once the production run is over they stop taking new orders, finish up what's needed, make a few spares just in case, and start retooling for the next knife models to come down the line. The Busse Company Store is run by a 3rd party and they are subject to the same availability issues the rest of us are for most knives.

Busse may or may not revisit that same model at a later date, usually slightly modified (nuclear meltdown, fat, skinny, extra crispy, etc) but don't count on it. If you want a knife out of production your best bet is the exchange here, waiting longer than necessary isn't recommended as prices on these knives do not generally decrease, and once in a while a really popular model will come along and the aftermarket prices will skyrocket soon after production ends. Busses are popular with both users and collectors, and collectors often get 2 or 3 of a model and keep their favorite and sometimes an extra user, and sell the others. Used knives do not generally come with a huge discount with Busse as the warranty is transferable, the knives almost never need it, and people who buy users buy them to use, so cosmetics aren't a big deal.

Thanks guys. I emailed the orders address and Pokey about it earlier, so hopefully I'll have a response soon.

I just know the TGLB is somewhat overdue for retirement, and I just want to make sure to get one before they're gone -which means I'm ready to get it NOW. I NEEDS IT.

Garth, can you PM and let me know what cost is on a TGLB with the comp finish. (preferably with the gray scales)
Thank you in advance. (I emailed/returned an email to Lexi but haven't received her response yet...I'd imagine you folks are pretty busy)

From what I understand Competition Finish is a standard option- no extra cost. Found this thread while looking around for answers.

Yea, I was gonna wait a few more days to place an order, but yea, screw that. I'm ready to get it going now......and yea I wish I could afford more than one, I think I'd get competition finish for #2. (my first choice is Tanker Grey blade w/ Tan/Black G10)

WOW!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought that you only had 2 choices of handle color with the comp finish...now that tan/black is one hot looking blade...damn...more decisions to be made...

That Competition finish with black Micarta is perfect. I love that combination. If I didn't already have an original TG, I would order one. Just can't seem to justify it right now.

How does Busse work.... you buy one little knife....just a taste mind you....next think you know you are signing the papers at work to have 40% of your wage directly transferred to "Busse Knife Co"...... just so you can stay current..... then they run a Ganza...next thing you know you are pawning your VCR...... ;)

Black and Tan.... you have fine taste...!!!

No response today :( I'm gonna send another email tomorrow and/or try to call them on Monday. I'll be so friggin' disappointed if I missed out on them.

But yea, Tan/Black is by far my favorite G10 color combo Busse does. I like it on pretty much any blade color.

There's another post that says they had some serious email problems, so I don't think they are ignoring you. ;)

I'd email and/or call Monday. I'd wager you're in the clear. ;)

(and go with CF & tequila G10... because I want to see what it looks like!) heh

The TGLB will not vanish over night and I am pretty sure the crew at The Shop will give us a heads up when they are going off the factory page (they have for the most part in the past). Lexi posted that there was a computer issue with their @busse e-mail and that anything sent in a certain period was lost. If all else fails just call 'em mate and they will get you started on the slippery slope to INFI addiction.... and the best part is you will be happy they did... now where is that VCR....

I just got my TGLB today and its sweeeeeeeeet! Got azwelke to do me a kydex insert for the spec ops sheath and now I have the best of both worlds! A spec ops sheath with a positive snap in that's sooooo secure. I am in love....

The e-mails are fixed now, however with customer's re-sending their e-mails it is taking me awhile to get through them all.

Congrats on your TGLB! :D

Well, I just called and placed my order. Ended up going with Tanker Grey/Tan Micarta-I decided to go with that first because that'll be one I actually use. This will be my first Busse/kin that wasn't gotten off the secondary market. Might call next week and add one with G10.
Thanks, Lexi!

And yea, I like the idea of Tequila Sunrise- I forgot about scales like that. I asked about Jungle Storm but I couldn't get it (at least not on a regular order)
