I don't have a pic but here's what it is. Its a bowie knife from a company called traditions. It says the blade steel is 440. Looks like either maple wood for a handle or some sort of fake wood since it doesn't feel like wood. It has a brass crossguard and a brass butt cap. The blade is about 8 in. its a pretty good considering i only spent 40 dollars on it. It holds an edge and its razor sharp. Scars to prove it. The brass gets a little dis-colored but nothing i'm worried about. anyone know anything about this knife?

Thats the knife but the blade is only 8inches on mine. I wanna know if these knives are any good

I have not used that knife, but have used a number of similar ones. There are two large possible problems, the first is that the edge is often not suitable for hard wood work and can turn on knots, you can get large bows the size of a quarter.

This edge tends to ripple as the steel can be fairly soft and often the hollow ground edge is relatively thin. The second problem is that they are often partial tangs which are not well done and they can either crack the handle, or just crack themselves. Often times you get no warning, just bang and the handle is gone.

In general I would recommend either a large bolo/golok which you can get for not a lot of money from Tramontina / Martindale, or spend a bit more money and get a better knife such as the CU/9 or Battle Rat depending on if you want more of a machete or axe.
