I recently sold my everyday user small seb, and a bunch of other fixed blades to buy a 2007 ivory sebenza. I'm sure some of you seen it in the exchange. I've wanted one of these for years! The problem I have now is I have this absolutly beautiful LE sebenza. I'm scared to even keep the thing in my pocket. I'm trying to sell but don't really want to. I know if I use it will get scratched. What do I do???? Does anybody know how prone to scrating the Mammoth ivory is? Can CRK refinish scratched up ivory? Soon I'm going to buy another plain sebenza to edc, but do not have the fundage before Christmas. The question is do I sell or do I carry??? I have lots of questions, any answers or opinions would be appreciated. Happy Holidays.

USE IT!!!! Knives are meant to be used.

Best,
Brett

Brett, I know they are meant to be used, I've had one in pocket for the last 4 years and used the hell out of it. I'm just wondering if I over-did-it with the whole LE and Ivory. Being I am as hard on my sebenza's as I've been in the past. Would it hold up to everyday use. Thanks for the reply.

use it if you feel you can.

If it was me though (im poor). I would keep it, and wait and buy another one.

if you are in a huge need for one, sell it.

Use it and don't worry about it. They are designed to take use and abuse. If after a couple of years it looks too beat up; send it to CRK and have them refurbish it for you and it will cost less than $50 including shipping.

FYI My LE's are permanently in my EDC rotation including two with damascus blades.

There are several nice knife in a pouch scenarios you could use to keep it from getting beat up. my advice is never move down in sebenzas, keep it!

I walk and use my Ivories daily, just pouch it ...and smile like you have a better knife then everyone else around you! ...because you do!:D

I don`t thinking scratches would be a big issue. The ivory might dull slightly, if you pocket-carry it daily, but I guess that`s about it. And I guess the ivory could always be polished again.

Something else to worry about though, is cracks. The creme ivory on my Sebenza developed hairline cracks (humid environment) and I really hate that.

That being said, I would suggest to protect the ivory with some renaissance wax or a similar product. This should protect the ivory from humidity and dirt to some extent....... .

Use it dude, its like putting ivory grips on your carry weapon. Are you seriously gonna put it in a case and look at it once a week or get rid of it because your afraid of putting it to work?

You paid good money for a nice sebenza, use it. Don't worry about scratches and scrapes. Just consider it as a knife that you will one day hand down to your kids or something. It will add flavor and character to it.

I use an old MicroTech pouch, the kind made about 5 years ago, to carry my fancy Sebenzas. I slide the pouch on my belt so that the pouch is in the horizontal position (in line with the belt). A small Sebenza carries very well with the pouch horizontal.

Thanks for all the replies, Yes, I am going to keep it! I allready ordered the renaissance wax. Thank you all for presueding me to keep the knife I wanted so much, I am going to use it with no regrets. Like someone said, the scratches will build character.

Use it, that's YOUR knife, YOUR friend. Sebenza is beautiful, but also strong...
I have 7 knives in my locker, they are all expensive and beautiful knives, so I don't even touch them :P
I have 4 Sebenza, I use them all. For all these years collecting knives, I just found that Sebenza is a very unique kind of knife. It's a knife you can use, you can trust...

so, USE it :0

Good dude, glad to hear it. I intend to do the same with my sebbie when it gets in tomorrow. I mean hell I paid a small fortune for it lol.

Call CRK and see what they recommend to keep the ivory nice.
AFAIK it is stabilized and should need very little care other than a polish once and a while with the Ren. wax, but I'd still ask.

I'd use it as needed. Though you're going to be pretty anxious about it for a while, you'll eventually get to appreciate it's usefulness as much as it's aesthetic value and any scratches or wear or dulling will only add character. I rotate mine, and have some that look pretty beat down. It's like a new car... until that first scratch or ding, you spend too much time thinking about it. After that it's nothing.

Ivory? Good score; they're beautiful.

Well, I ordered another plain regular also. It came 2 days ago. The old sebenza that I used to have was well broke in. I am noticing differences in the Annual, and the regular. The first is the smoothness, The LE is way smoother than the other. Both are brand new? Second is the Regular's lock bar covers about 1/4 of the tang, like a brand new knife. The LE covers about 85%. More than my old one that I have had for 4 years? Its close to touching the other scale. Kind of worry's me bit? Third is the blade, The LE's blade looks to be thinner especially in the middle, it starts thinning out towards the middle to the tip. Where the regular stays thicker and comes to the tip more abruptly.. Just slight differences that I have noticed. I am not going to be using the LE as much as the regular model. I am just a little conerned about the lock bar so far over on a brand new sebenza. I just hope with prolonged use it doesn't get sloppy on me. Both have been carried for about 2 days only. And each dissasebled ounce.. Is this normal?

That's why I own 5 plain janes! They are the best edc money can buy! Don't get me wrong, I love my dressed up Sebs, but worn Ti looks sharp to me.
