I have a ninja keychain, if you know what I am talking about then you know it's a simple little thing. I live in Queens, N.Y. and I desperatley need to know if this kind of weapon is legal or illegal in N.Y.
 
You need to look to see if NJ outlaws metal knuckles. If metal knuckles are banned then your keychain (which meets the standard language of metal knuckles) is also banned.
 
If you are talking about the claw wrap around your fingers style then yes, they are illegal ( Section 265 of the NYS Penal Law) If you are referring to the long stick like weapon that are commonly sold as key chains, then it is somewhat a question as they can be classified as a dangerous weapon simply by their design, and therefore can be deemed illegal. The officer may or may not be required to attest to your actions as to wheter or not it is a dangerous weapon. I have seen this go both ways in NY courts on this item. Which do you have?
