I'm trying to figure out all the Busse variations... the NMSFNO in particular.

Is there a version of the NMSFNO with standard scales and not the magnum scales?

I am curious about the NMSFNO scales as well. I have three of them. Two are very smooth black g-10. The other black g-10 has a lot of ridges and is way “grippier”. Was this an option at the time?

I can't comment on the NMSFO specifically, but the custom shop used to offer folks to order "hand smoothed" scales. I have several like this. They haven't been letting people do this recently...

As far as I know there were no "standard", ie flat, scales offered on the NMSFNO. But yes contoured (machined groves etc) and "handshapped" (smooth) were.

B&T Handshapped...

B&T Machined...

This is what got me to ask the question. The middle knife sure looks like a NMSFNO with standard scales.

By the picture it looks legit. It is possible that a couple were made that way and released at a show ? Some oddities here and there were released at blade show & knob creek. It’s also possible it may have been rehandled at Custom shop, ordered direct that way, or rehandled at another shop. Either way it looks pretty sweet

I'd be willing to bet there are at least a few out there. Guarantee it. Coming from shows, custom shop orders, etc.

Example- you never see ASH2s with flat/non-magnum scales, but they exist. They had some at bladeshow this past year. And thats a model that hasn't had very many times its been released. (just the initial release, bladeshow this past year, and some in grab bags, afaik), so given how much older the NMSFNO is, how many have been at shows and the like, and the custom shop was open for a long time after its release I guarantee there are some out there.

Here is at least one with non-mag G10 scales, though they are not handsmoothed as they do have little groves in them. These are flat (non-mag) Blue and Maroon G10 scales. I’ve heard them called Superman Scales.

Yeah thats cool. I have a BG Hell Razor with the "flat" scales. I think they feel better to me than the magnums. I sure would like to get my hands on one to add to the collection.

Mr. happy Can you post pics of your mag flat scales? interested in seeing these. Do you know thickness on them ? Ty. Happy new year hogs!

Most of the images you’re posting I can’t see.
Are they thicker than the “Superman” ones up a few posts?
Those thin black paper looking ones could have been swapped with a sfno. Lots of them out there with thin standard scales. But then again they are the same scales. Or just ordered like that. Don’t know but like that knife .

Think that’s T’s pic. (Knife hunter)from years ago. Iirc that pic is part of a whole table full of black paper satin INFI Love.

There are also a few snakeskin NMSFNO's out there and all snakeskin was standard thickness. Some knife designs just feel amazing with standard thickness scales, like the SAR 4/6/7/8, ASH 1/2 & NM/SFNO.

How does one know if they have Mag scales or normal scales? Can some post a comparison pic?

Just picked up an NMSFNO with black g10 and love the feel of it. I have fairly small hands and the scales feel great to me.

Post #9 shows the flat/standard scales. Has the same ribs just much less contour than magnum.
