I came home after running around for the last few days emptying my sister in law house to get it ready for sale since she passed away in the beginning of January of this year. So aside from the camaraderie on the forum it's been a terrible last 6 months.

Today's mail call didn't change it but the gift I received from another knife knut today put a huge smile on this old man's face. :D

Today in the mail was a mysterious package with no return address or note saying who it was from, (I later deduced who it came from) it was a Buck Creek Bull & Bear 4 blade Congress with bull horn covers. Here it is on the top with my other Congress patterns, the BFC Congress Jack and the GEC Northfield which was also a gifted knife from another generous member here at BFC. Like the others it will get plenty of pocket time and some serious use. :)

Ted I am sad to hear that your last six months has been like that Sir- My condolences with the passing of your sister-in-law, thats sad news!
I personally have had little to do with the Congress myself, I have owned only a few, A Case Red Bone, A Primble Half Congress that has lovely Delrin Covers that look so much like Bone, and then I was gifted the Forum Congress by a very member here:cool:, and each one of those knives I really really like - so I guess I am saying that I kinda like the Congress, so I can see where you are coming from Ted as all of those are beauties

Sorry to hear it's been a tough six months Ted. That's a very thoughtful and generous gift to receive - well done to our anonymous friend :) You're a great stalwart of the forum Ted, and richly deserving of such lovely knives, and of better times I hope

Jack

They look very well together, great contrast of handle materials:thumbup:

An act of kindness/altruism is all the more important in the times of darkness that engulf all of us periodically.

Regards, Will

Ted Sir, I am sorry to hear of the passing of your sister-in-law. I hope this gift will serve to cheer you up some.
While I do not own but a few knives in this pattern I am still fond of the Congress as an EDC companion.

Sorry for your loss, Ted. That's a great and generous gift to add to your growing collection of Congress knives. I've got a few myself that don't get carried as often as they should.

Ted, I'm sorry to hear that you've been going through a difficult time. Here's wishing you peace, joy and happiness too, now and in the future. By the way, the congresses look terrific.

I am so sorry to hear about your family loss (I just recently read the very moving story of your father). A very moving and generous gesture and gift from a fellow knife lover, it is really beautiful.

Thank you for posting the lovely picture, Ted. Those are beautiful knives. I'm very sorry to hear about your family's loss, but glad that you have such good friends here who can brighten your day.

Please don't take my next question as anything but an attempt to lift your mood and learn more about this pattern. I'm honestly interested in the Congress pattern, being something of a whittler myself, and have been eyeballing them for a while. Can you tell us more about why you love this pattern and what you use the blades for? What is it about the Congress that puts a smile on your face?

Honesty interested :)

-- Mikel.

Sorry you've been going through some tough times, Ted, but glad that BF can provide some comfort. I know I like to log in here a couple of times each day because I invariably find something that makes me feel better! :)

I'm glad you could get a smile from the gift of a new-to-you congress, and I'd be interested in your response to Mikel's question, too. I really enjoy hearing from other members what they like about particular patterns or knives.

My condolences; I went through all that just last year when my mother passed on New Years Day. Even now I'm still dealing with the estate.

But I have a good number of Congress patterns; they're one of my favorite. I carry 2-3 in rotation, today's being the BF Irish Congress. Much as I like a swayback, I prefer the Congress in a 3 5/8" size. It's perfect for dress or daily carry.

Sorry for your family hardships, Ted. The generosity here in the Traditionals Forum never ceases to amaze me. Those are some real nice looking Congresses (love the older style shield on that NF).

Ted, sorry your past six months have been tough. I hope that the future holds only joy and smiles.

A gift well given, a gift well deserved, a gift well received.

I appreciate you sharing this Ted.

Chris
