Hey Guys,
Does anyone know of a reputable person to thin, hollow grind and polish a clip blade on a Socom DA? I think if it is thinned a bit and hollow ground it would be perfect. I gotta be nuts to try to improve a MT, but I think it would slice better if it were thinner.

you'd be hard pressed to find someone to grind a blade that's already hardened!

Well for the sake of a discussion I will disagree with both of you on this one. I think hollow grinding a soccom would improve the slicing ability, Grinding a Hardened blade is completely possible, they get final ground and polished after heat treat, and then you have makers that are working with Talonite and Stellite this material is not annealed and then age hardened after grinding!

I don't know if it can or can't be done but if it happens please show us a picture. It sounds very interesting

You might get a quicker response if you copy this question to the Shop Talk Forum. I'm not equiped to do it anymore, but as a teen I used to have a small sideline hollow grinding switchblades. You need to go slow and use a lot of water, but it tremendously improves the cutting ability of the blades.

Thanks for the comments guys, I sent it to the shop talk forum to get kicked around. If I get it done i'll post a pic and let you know how it worked.

gotta agree with Ken B....sorry fred....grinding the whole blade thinner will make it cut much better, and with the belts we are getting these days grinding hardened steels is duck soup...just go slow and dont get it hot (hold it in your bare hands is the best way)...and btw, Im NOT volunteering.....

well i stand corrected. But why don't you just buy a d/a socom that's already polished and hollow ground? (they do exist you know)
