Now you have a chance to make a crazy long password. Caps, numbers, letters, but most importantly length.

Dang that sucks. You may want to post this in Tech Support as the mods or Spark might be able to take a deeper look.

Especially since any reason besides using an account with good feedback to make it easier to scam people escapes me. Anybody else have another reason this would be worth doing?

Someone could have just done it for kicks. Knowing it would lock him out of his account for a little while and send an email.

I would go with the scam piece. "Sell a couple knives" and ask for friends and family payment. Sounds most logical.

...... not the case with IZULA I am sure but there have been other cases where accounts have been "hacked" by ex-wives, girlfriends, stalkers, pet chickens etc to go on posting rampages across the forums.

I will of course maintain that any future meltdown I have, will be squarely blamed on my neighbour's cat.... it is a surly looking tabby that has never liked me !!

If you received more than one of these notifications, def contact Spark. To me personally, it seems that if you only received one, and nothing has changed with your account, like your account didn't post a bunch of spam recently & suddenly, or none of your account settings/email settings have been changed, then your password thwarted some automated bot/bot net that used up 5 attempts, and moved on to the next task...probably another account email on some other board who knows where, on whatever list... :)

Personally, I've never had a lockout...that wasn't my own fault. :o:o :D
Please change your password though!

And here I thought it was usually a calico that pulled that sort of stuff. Just goes to show you can't judge on appearances.

Yup. Change password. Make it at least 12 characters long, include numbers and symbols. Don't use words. Just use a random-ass string of characters.

Let's move this to tech support where it's most beneficial.

Probably this. We've had long dead accounts pop back up to post spam and such before. Might wanna make sure your password is secure in any case. I've spent part of the day changing all mine as someone cracked both my Google and Yahoo accounts.

I've gotten a handful of matches on first 3 octets, there are no 4 octet matches though. That may narrow it down to about 6-7 people.

*Cough* like that one dude who totally did that on the Busse forum. Some fly larvae and grey matter sounding name... *cough*
