Hi Everyone,

Here is a knife I just finished.

The blade is forged from 1080 and 15N20 in "Star Twist" Pattern Damascus. The handle is fluted fossil walrus ivory. The fittings are German Silver with a little file-work. This was the first time I've made a knife with a fluted handle and I think I will be doing many more.:D

I would like to thank my brother Caleb for the great picture.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks for looking and God bless.

That is very nice Kyle And the new found skill's will come in handy with your MS test

Guess you won't be having a problem with the MS dagger part Kyle. Would have been nice to have this with a larger blade though. also the butt would be better if matched to the guard from ivory on back. Just my thoughts.

Real nice, and crazy for a first one. I'd say it could use a spacer/ferrule thing to pull it together more.. (just my positive criticism) :)

There's a lot to like about this knife. Beautiful materials and excellent workmanship. It would look better to me with a longer blade.

Excellent knife, especially for a first try, but I'm with a few of the other guys here. IMHO it would have looked better with a longer blade and an other pommel/butt cap.

Marcel

You sure figured out that fluting thing pretty quick. Beautifully done overall.

Come on guys, we're talking about a Queen's Dagger here.
A Queen can't be carrying some big ass blade. ;):D

But serious, I really like the design. Sure, it could have had a somewhat match finial, a ferrule, an 8-9 inch blade and even silver wire, but a full blown art dagger is not what Kyle was going for here. I like it's simplicity and elegance and the way the eye is immediately drawn to the beautiful handle.
And besides, I expect it was made to customer's specifications. A very nice piece in my opinion.

By the way, does anyone think Kyle is going to struggle with his MS Dagger? I doubt it. ;)

Kyle, I see you had trouble fitting your mark in the normal place. ;)

Looks good. I agree a queen's dagger can't be large. The symetry of the damascus across the center line is excellent. What's the sheath going to be...outside of the skirt or underneath :)

Kyle,

Looks like we're having fun, here.

Also looks like a very clean job on the fluting and dagger grinds.

John

Your workmanship is amazing on every part of this dagger, but unlike every other piece of your work I've had the pleasure to see, this one is just not coherent. I can't put my finger on why, but I think maybe the guard is out of place. It seems too rugged, too deeply worked, too black- as if it should be on a stag handled King's dagger. If it was simpler, maybe rounded to make it more feminine, it might have fit the rest of the knife (esp. the pommel/butt) better.

Hat's off to your mad skills though. You obviously have quite a gift if that knife was mine I'd be tickled to death.

Good point. I like to see symmetry and consistency in damascas patterns.
I measure a good feather pattern by it's symmetry, straightness of the feather centerline and how it gracefully contours to the Blade tip.

Yep, a nice silver and leather sheath would be tasty icing on the cake.
The finial design could be repeated on the sheath tip to tie it all in.

What's next Kyle? Ever thought about doing a sword? ;)

Looks GREAT Kyle. The fluting looks excellent, the guard accentuates it well, and that damascus is REALLY nice too!

I was thinking that some twisted wire in the handle would really look good...not that it doesn't look good already.

Pleasure seeing it.

Oops, did I forget to mention this was a miniature.;)

I had my brother take another picture of this knife, while he did the first one just so I could tease everyone on the forum a little. I hope you guys won't be mad at me.

As for everyone wanting a longer blade, my mom is going to wear this as a necklace knife and use it so I had to keep the blade as small as I could and the handle as long as possible for her to be able to hold it and use.

I actually made the blade last year for my mom and had not been able to Finish it until recently.

Here is the other picture.

I hope this helps a little. The blade is 1 3/4" long and the handle is 1 3/4" long. I think as a miniature that is going to be used it looks proportional. If it were made in full size something would look off.

Again I hope you forgive me, I just couldn't resist a little teasing with this one.

You had me fooled all the way, :o though I did wonder right off why for the first time you didn't list dimensions. That should have been the tip-off.

Even more impressed now, as I feel this piece is absent of the normal "tell tail signs" of a miniature. Yes, as said the blade/handle proportion looked a little off but no so much to tip your hand.

OK, but now we want to see a full size version of that handle and quick. ;) :)

Smarty Pants!

Well done. The miniature slipped right past, just looking like a cute little knife.

I'm even more impressed with the grinds and fluting, you rascal.

I think you put one over on everybody with this one! It was a pleasure meeting you at Blade. And I can't wait to see your first, full size fluted dagger! Great job fooling us all!

she's a great looking knife, regardless.
As for messing with everyone a bit, good on ya!:thumbup::thumbup:
