Something a bit different from the bench ... a Tanto!

Just thought I'd share a sneak peak of something I'm working on for myself.

I always loved Bob Lum's work, and even tried for a whole year to add one of his tantos to my personal collection ... but I never found one.

So I thought I would make my own Lum-inspired tanto ... hollow ground on all bevels, except the tip which is convex:

Thanks for looking!

Marcus, that looks like it is going to be a real nice looking tanto, I love those grinds!!

Great to see you trying a Tanto, can't wait to see the finished piece.

That's gonna be a DANDY when completed. Good job:thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks everyone for all the comments.

I'm going to go for a hand rubbed satin finish on the blade. Need a break from mirror polishing!

I'm thinking black G10 w/ white liners for the handle .... but it's going to be a while until I have the chance to finish it.

Very very nice - I was talking to Bob about a commission when he passed away. I have always admired his knives and I too have been scouring the world for one ever since. I've had to make do with the Spydie fixed blade which gives a reasonable impression of a hamaguri ground tip - and yours looks great Marcus! I think the challenge is getting the right blend of sweep in the tip so that the graceful curves of the Jaoanese blades are brought to mind. Very much look fwd to seeing this advance to completion.
