I visited Indian George a couple of weeks ago and made a few billets. Mostly random frontier damascus. However he got me to weld up a piece of chainsaw chain. Here are the results. Blade is 4 1/8 in long, 1/8in thick, and 1in wide at the widest point. Knife is 8in overall. Blade is chainsaw chain damascus. Ferrule and butt cap are nickel silver. Scales are stag. Great weight and balance to this knife. Not my usual style but once in a while you need to try something a little different.
Thaks for looking,
Chuck

With most knives I like a guard, but this one looks great just the way it is. Beautiful pattern you got using that chainsaw chain. So what was the inspiration for you to make a knife of this style, Chuck?

Keith,
It was going to be an English style bowie with a stacked nickel silver and tool steel guard, but I felt that the pattern in the damascus was too dramatic for that kind of a knife. An English style bowie was simple and elegant, this would have had too much "going on". I looked at the billett and it spoke to me. I drew up a pattern and it fit the billett so I went with it. I like to experiment and make many different patterns or styles of knives, it shows my versatility as a maker.
Thanks,
Chuck
