Hello guys, I got a second hand Spyderco C36 Military with black G10 handle made in (maybe) 2004, and I'd like to know what's the material of its little ball embeded in the liner lock? Will it wear down little by little when I use it?

PS: Who can tell me what this little ball call in English? Thx!

It is called the detent ball and is usually a steel ball in production knives (what specific steel I dont know), or it can be a ceramic ball on other knives such as customs, Chris Reeve knives and other higher priced knives.

It will wear little by little dependent on the material, but it will take a considerable amount of time and thousands of openings and closings.

With all the Spyderco Military models out there I have never heard of one such ball wearing out.
