Something black on the edge of the blade?

So I got my wife a purple delica and noticed the tip of the blade had a spot of black on it. Let some clp soak on it, most came off. Wasn't happy with it so its going back and today I got the other one...same damn thing and the blade was not centered at all...almost hitting one side. So now im waiting on a 3rd one...hopefully this one will be the one.

Does anybody know whats the black stuff....both knives have it and its only on the tip of the blade. Looks almost paint.
Thanks.

Grinder burn maybe? Hard to say without a picture.
Picked up a BN sprint Lum Chinese a few weeks ago and had some surface discoloration from grinding. Came right off with some Blue Magic polish.

Thanks...just that I never seen that with any other spyderco knives.

The issue has popped up once or twice around here since I've been around and the Lum I mentioned is the first time I've had any heat discoloration on any new Spyderco knife out of the hundreds I've bought over the years.
