I would like to add something with a carbon fiber handle to my collection.....
I've been looking at the Spyderco Sage but am a little unsure about the
whole "Tiawan thing"............oponions?????

With reputable manufacturers (and Spyderco sure is one), it matters not where the knife is made.

You could always have CF scales made for any knife you want. That way it's a one-off piece and it would be more unique.
Just my $0.02

Don't hold back from overseas Spyderco knives because of quality, those knives are normally held to a pretty high standard. I choose not to buy them just because I'd rather buy USA made, but that's a personal preference.

I wish I could find one of the old Benchmade 770s with CF scales. Those things were sweet.

The Spyderco Sage is one of my favorite knives. The manufacturing quality is excellent. I much prefer the texture of the Sage's carbon fiber handle compared with the smooth finish on the Caly 3 CF/ZDP-189 model.

How about something like?

The only CF knife I own is the SOG Arcitech.

Laminated VG10 blade is made in Japan, Titanium Bolsters offset the CF very nicely.

I know SOG doesn't always get a lot of good press here on BF, but this Knife is solid and has excellent fit and finish.

They are a bit pricey, but they are limited edition of 1000 qty.

Don't forget the BG-42 one. :D We have both versions at the shop, and the peel ply carbon fiber is nice and grippy.

What is it about Taiwan that makes you hesitant?
Is it that you're afraid it will be of lesser quality? - it is not.
If it's for economic/political reasons, then there's nothing I can really say to change your mind about that.
