That should make for a terrific chopper at a very reasonable price. Good stuff.

definitely a very positive evolution in the design of the original SMC.
I just saw this knife yesterday on the site and it is very impressive/progressive, imo.

great jawin with you today, Joe:)

The same to you Lorien

I prefer the original design

We differ on that....the original design as executed did not look like a Jason Knight knife....this new model does....and I prefer that.

Jason is a very accomplished 'smith, and an OUTSTANDING artist in his own right, so I prefer to be able to recognize his knives by their unique features.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I understand and respect that!

That old version hit a note with me. I just like the design regardless of whose name was attached to it.

you can't really go wrong with either iteration, however I can attest to the high performance of the original design and wouldn't have it any other way. For my uses, it is the perfect weight, length etc.

STeven is right, however, and I said the very same thing to Jason when last we talked and just after I saw this- that this new version has a 'face', which is very recognizably a Knight knife. I feel that it should sell through extremely well as it is a very handsome knife. I'd love to do some testing on one, so if anyone buys one and wants to lend it to me for a couple of weeks...;):D

Doesn't meet the design criteria I originally set out to fulfill in the design of the original, but that's why we buy custom knives, right?

:)

Thats my chopper on his website. I got the 1st one and had mine for a week now. Congrats on who ordered one. I'll post some pics later.:D

I have to say thanks to LORIEN:thumbup:for getting these choppers started and Jason for the new design. Jason , love the knife and thank you very much! When I first opened the box and saw the knife I said to myself, man this blade is big... Maybe I should of had Jason do Lorien's knife. But , when you start chopping the knife becomes small and your glad you got that weight out front.I tested it out on some fallen cherry and you can see in the pics on the right I used the whole knife and the pic on the left I just used the front 4inch of the knife that has the belly and it handled awsome. Also chopped a little dead oak , eats it right up.I also was worried about the handle , since Lorion said it was a little slippery , but my pinky held firm to the rear of the handle and my grip was tight. When I started to sweat it was more grippier , but in the rain it might slip.I am very happy with the whole design ,blade and handle. Here are a few pics and THANK YOU JASON.:D

dang, that's a good looking knife! Especially in its natural habitat.
Love those tapers. I feel it's what makes all the difference when it comes to feel. My 'little' knife is so perfectly balanced that it becomes a natural extension of my arm. Which is why it even cuts well in my off hand.

Unless you're trekking off trail during the rainy season in a rainforest, you don't have to worry much about losing your grip on canvas micarta. The little piece of grip I added to the handle on my SMC is just enough for my uses and it ain't much.

I think the aluminum pins are a nice touch. However, next iteration maybe I'll look into titanium ones, just for the extra geek factor.

Also, I don't use a lanyard usually, but when I do I don't want it under the heel of my hand. The lanyard hole on Jason's handles are very well thought out, (when mostly you see lanyard holes that are added as an afterthought on many knives) and when a cord is used it is unnoticed.

Thank you all for spreading the word about this one. I rarley have a chance to make such an offer but, I shure enjoy this knife and I wanted people th have an opportunity to get one. Thank you KTMADV for [showing pictures of your [ been there cut that] with the new SMCXL. The open spots I have for this knife are filling up and membership in the Sooke Mountain Chopper Owners Group [SMCOG] is growing but limited.
Thank you all for continued support of my metal mashing mayhem.
Jason
