Is it normal when you get a certain amount of orders you just have to start doing off the wall stuff?

If anyone has seen the Tim Livley video, you'll recognize this. I've never made a blade without using a grinder so I thought I'd try. I did use a grinder on the handle though...I ain't that brave. ;)

The blade is 5" (9 1/2" total) of 1095 with a fully forged, distal tapered blade. The forged finished was soaked/scrubbed in white vingear for about 3 days. The guard and pommel are forge piened wrought iron and deep etched. The tang goes straight through the pommel and is piened over. The handle is stabilized Cherry Burl wood. I had to set my initials in the pommel end of the handle since there is no place to do the chemical etch on the blade. ;) This was fun. It's a nice sharp knife that you don't have to care about scratching up the blade on.

Man J, that's some super hammer work! I can't imagine getting that close with a hammer... Incredible! My hat's off to you again, good thing I have all this hair or I'd have a sunburned noggin these days.

Sure was Ray. Damn good stuff. I'm doing a bowie with a fancy damascus ring guard right now. I think I'm going to make one out of George's WI next.
Make a stamp for these...now there's an idea.
Thanks guys.

Awesome! Also, congrats on your knife in Knives 2005. That was really sweet, too!

oh yeah...I need my forge up and running. I have 1/2 the stuff but this gets my juices flowing :D

J, that's the "Way!". You sure show your hammering skill with a blade like that one. :D

And as always, Tess' leather work is outstanding!

Looks great J. Not using a grinder, that's something. The handle and of course the sheath look beautiful. :)

Thanks for all the nice comments. I took this one to the Schnecksville, PA show Sat. I got alot of weird double-take looks and many nice remarks.

Hey J. There is something about that guard. The shape, thickness, I think your on to a new design element. That's my favorite part of that blade.

The sheath on the other hand, now there's craftmanship!
