Almost a year ago I was able to purchase this Axe by now retired maker Steve Mullin but due to the fact the photos were not good I received it with the gold wire loose from the handle and had my friend Brian Lyttle fix it up and hopefully you all will enjoy seeing something a bit different.

This is not a lightweight piece by any means and is more than a handful to wield.

The piece is 20" OAL and the blade is 6 1/2" long, 3 3/4" across and 7/8" thick. The blade and fittings are mild steel and nickel and is completely able to be disassembled.

The 6" fossil walrus handle is fluted and has gold wire inlay.

It is a truly wonderful display piece.

Mild steel + nickel = soft, no? Or is their a hardened high carbon core?

I got to handle this one - both when Murray first got it and since the refinishing. Brian did an excellent job - the handle wrap is tight and perfect and the rest of it is pretty much pristine. It is a beast in hand - I'd need a lot more Viking in me to swing this thing effectively. But it is a beauty - I just love that big honking walrus tusk handle.

yes Joss, you are correct. When it was made it was done as a gift for a friend of Steve's and it was for display and not functionality so it has never been hardened. I guess I just felt it fit in my eclectic collection.
