I have had this blade for a few months and finalld got it heat treated (Thanks to Rene Roy) and put a handle on it. I don't make many fixed blades anymore but it was a nice change. Blade is 4-3/4in long 1/4in thick made of my own damascus. Fittings are stainless with a polished caribou antler handle. Overall length is 9-3/8in. The damascus is amazing onthis knife. I have not been able to get a good pic of it. The "B" is even more dramatic than the side you see.

The damascus was made at one of Indian George's hammer-ins. I made it in a way similar to the canister method. I made an envelope out ot stainless heat treating foil and put in all my scraps of damascus stacked up on each other. I thn filled the envelope with 1084 powder to fill in any gaps. It was flaced in the forge for 10 min till I thought that it was hot enough and given one inital press to weld everything together. It worked great. The foil was then removed and a handle welded on. From there it was drawn out into a billet.

Thanks for looking,
Chuck

I really like the look of this knife. That damascus has an outstanding pattern. You should make more fixed blades.

Chucky, that came out cooool. Did you also put more nickel in the package?? (getting older forgot)

George, I don't think tha tI added any nickel, the damascus I use was all high carbon and some was mosaic with lots of nickel in it already. I am starting to save scraps to make another.

Starting to save scrap for another, what are you trying to say????:D :D :D We can put them into a canister with a 5160 core. After 1/21/03 going back to college, only days off are Wednesdays and Sundays, till end of May. That is why I pushed back the Hammer-In.
