Something different (for me)

This is my first pic posted to the forums. I chose to do my grand entry into this forum, rather than the knifemakers forum, because of the recent threads here. I'd like some honest opinions. No kumbayas, but be gentle, I'm a virgin.

I've recently become more fascinated with wharncliffs. This knife represents a change from my more pedestrian pieces. I call it the Redtail, after the Redtail Hawk.

Specs: Made from D2, blade is 4 1/4", knife is 9 1/4" oa.
Bolsters are ebony.
Handles scales are camel bone, for those who dislike giraffe bone.
Pins are brass.

The "eyes" are .8 carat Oregon Sunstones, which just happen to fit a 1/4" hole.

The knife can be seen in person at the OKCA Show in just over a week, table Q10.

Thanks for the feedback.

That'sne beautifull knife. Does the edge sweep up to meet the point, or is it just me? How much would you ask for a piece like that, just out of curiousity?

Smitty,

The edge does rise up very slightly to meet the point. I don't know whether I'm allowed to post prices here so I'll send you a PM.

Gene,

I like the blade design & grind. It looks like a great utility & paring knife.

I don't like the handle design choices. The execution looks fine from the pic, but on a personal level the design is not pleasing to me. I'd much rather get a simple slab with 2 stanless pins, no bolsters.

Nice design and looks to be cleanly executed. I like the two-tone effect on the handle.

Hi Gene and welcome,

I really like the blade shape (wharncliffe with a false edge), but prefer the handle you have on your Ladyhawk. I, too, like the two-tone effect created by the bolster, but think the multiple pins are a little too much. FYI, I finished the Ladyhawk blade I got from you with a blackwood bolster and California buckeye.

This is a good looking knife. I am not a fan of gem encrusted users (and this is a user).
But the profile has a real nice flow to it. I guarantee that will sell at the show. The pin pattern is very appealing to me. Not sure why more makers don't get creative like this.

I new the knife is a user, but again, was trying somethinmg different. There's no reason why someone can't have a bit of an upscale user. And yes, if I were doing a paring knife, it would have slab handles and been 154CM or S30V.

Thanks for the comments so far. When I do a collector piece I'll post it.
