Something different for your turkey

I had a customer approach me about making a special knife for his traditional Thanksgiving turkey carving. He gave me the size, basic blade shape and told me to come up with a nice package for it.

So I came up with this... 1/8" Aldo's 1075/1080, 8" OAL, clay quenched, wrought iron/nickel/1080 san mai bolsters left over from another knife, redwood burl handle. There is nice filework on spine but I forgot to photograph it. The box is naturally featured redwood burl sent to me by Mark from Itsa Burl. Awesome piece of wood. I just milled out a cavity for the knife, lined it with braintan doeskin and made ties for it. I also put some breather holes in it. The knob is from the same shipwreck (F.H. Prince, sunk in 1845, Lake Erie) wrought iron as the bolsters.

Anway... fun little project.

Thanks folks...

I agree Butch.. but this guy was serious about his turkey and seemed to know what he wanted.

(by the way... I apologize for the lack of depth of field in the handle.. I shot this in natural light and had my aperture wide open!)

hey not a big deal a thhe buyer that gives you the specs is the one who is right :)

i have found many chefs that have a set of specs for a blade that are all but down to the MM of what they want

Dude, you rock. That is just a terrific package. I like more blade for carving up a big bird, but you gave the customer what he wanted and, I expect, much more. Great job, love the box.

Very cool package.
I really like the knife and am impressed with how you used the redwood for the box. I think you really have a good eye for this style of knives. Keep up the great work. BTW, I love my dagger!

Thanks again folks... Your extremely harsh criticisms on the length of this tool made me go out and measure it. Guess what? It's 9 3/4" :-) Not sure where I came up with 8". Looks like great minds think alike.
