Just finished looking at the old thread about the douk douk knives. Very cool! I had never seen or heard of these historic knives before, also saw something about the higono kami knives, also really cool simple design....so know I'm wondering what other cool, old "different" types of knives have I never heard of? What other stuff can you think of guys? Pics is an added bonus!!!:D

Lol, i havent seen the svord yet, but i will check it out, thanks! An Opinel was one of the first knives i bought after coming to this forum...its actually in my pocket with a small SAK right now...

The Mercator K55K was also mentioned in the Douk-Douk thread. They have an interesting history as well.

The Okapi ? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okapi_(knife)

Here you have the Okapi, Mercator and the small douk

Aitor Castor. It's a really good looking blade shape and handle. Comes in 3 sizes. I would've bought one if it was stainless :P

Navaja knives (traditional Spanish design)... I like 'gentlemanly' version made by Nieto, also comes in three sizes (mine is natural wood handle and looks even better):

Check out the Swedish, Norwegian knives like the Moras and EKAs, very well made, long history, and reasonably priced.

If you are into knives you are doing yourself a disservice if your collection does not include the Douk Douk and the Mercator. Those Mercators with the history to back it up are truly "get the job done" knives. Just my opinion.
