Hi everybody,

I have looked around but not found anything like this exactly ?
I have seen kydex covered in leather, Dwayne, Swinkles and a few others
and kydex lined with leather, safariland holsters and even a couple sheaths lined with leather or suede .

but never 1/2 kydex & 1/2 leather ?

I have seen a holster kind of made that way but not a sheath ?

Has Anyone seen this ?

I did some with leather backs and then did leather fronts.
You get the snap of kydex with the softness and look of leather :)

Interesting, David. Is the noise of insertion and extraction muffled or reduced? Thinking about hunters application here.
Is there any appreciable advantage to either the front style or the back style one over the other? I would think carry attachments would work best with the Kydex back, although you seem to have solved that per your proto photos.

You probably just created a whole new market!!!

Thank you Paul.

You know it does make it about 50% quieter :) really though it is a bit less noisy.

The back side are the ones I did first as I was not sure how much I needed to bring the leather up.
From now on I may just do the front side for looks.

I may even get some tooling tools and try that out :)

At first I thought The 710. But I do believe his are thin leather layered over the kydex?

Looks pretty cool to me.

I've looked for this too and found nothing. I thought it was a great idea and would work well... seems like it does.

never seen it and i`ve been thinking about this for while, but never took the "leap". Looks really good, very nice job, my only question will be, will the leather stretch over time?

Great work as usual, David! I like it. See you at Blade.

David,

As usual, great work sir, creative and pushing the edge so to speak. Minotaur has a line of holsters out there that combine kydex and leather. I don't own one but have seen, felt and worn one for test and evaluation. The kydex holds the weapon in place and the leather holds the kydex holster on your belt or rig a little more comfortably then the rigid stuff. I liked the concept, however I am an old dog and plain leather is all I use to keep a gun close.

I do plan on changing that due in part to your talents, kindness and good sense.

Good job man,

Charlie

That's great. :)

Seems to be one of those ideas that many have had, but haven't tried, congrats on going for it. I'd be very interested in how well it works over time. Obviously the leather will move so I'm curious as to how that effects performance. The Kydex will force any movement on the leather, I'd want to use thick stiff leather with minimal wet forming, but I have no idea if that matters.

I think some tooling would be killer. A basket weave stamp would make that look amazing, and it seems to add a little stiffness too. Please post pics if you do it.
