A web site I have been poking around on for a fair while, it is very interesting. They are hardly martial arts blades, mostly display pieces, but probably of the same quality as the original. I am rather keen on the cavalry sabres, particularly the 1796 HCS. Anyhow, take a look folks:

I'm kinda partial to the basket-hilts. The pictures show up sort of pixilated when I view them, but the quality does seem plenty good enough for a $200.00 item. I guess I don't need real "users"- just blades sturdy enough to get kicked around while I learn the sword dance. :D

funny....I don't really care for basket hilts....I did like this one: 1796 Pattern Infantry Sabre

my kinda sword - straight and to the point!

Uh...this is a site for heterosexually-challenged gallic fetish types, judging from their cartoon man.

I feel about mil swords during the mid/late age of gunpowder like I feel about Chinese spears made after the Ming dynasty--they're decorators.

Thanks fer the link, naytheless!

Pen, I agree, the basket hilts are impressive and I would love to try one out, but the Heavy Cavalry Sabre has a special place in my heart (yes, I have read Sharpe, but before I started reading them I picked up an original at a militaria fair and loved the feel of it, couldn't afford it so I guess I will just have to make do with a replica.

... nice.

My father owns this one:
g_navy4.jpg

it is from his uncle who was a pilot (Leutnant zur See) in the German navy and shot down at the age of 26 over the Baltic sea in 1941. The blade is etched (shows various ships of the German Kriegsmarine) and the lion has a green and a red eye. wonderful work - and a matching dagger for the "small" dress. Of course it is not a user...

All I have to say to you basket-hilt detractors is:

"If its not Scottish- Its CRRRAP!" :D
