It just dawned on me that the knives I have been carrying the most are "gift" knives. The ones I have been using the most came from members here. Besides the custom from Glenn, I`ve been carrying the Vic Farmer from Todd, the engraved Buck 112 from Jack, and the very old Buck 110 from Andy (that one cleaned up real nice on my 3M belt and buffer!) Along with my Zippo (with the butane insert) and my new tiny flashlight, both from Mykel, I`ve been well prepared for anything. Subconsiously I guess I like having my friends nearby.

Stuff like gifted knives spark memories when you carry them around and use them, long after the initial event wears off.

I'm just a hobbyist knife tinkerer, so it is a huge thrill and honor for me when people not only like my work, but want to carry it and use it. I'm sure as a maker, you must get that feeling that the work you are doing will make your legacy live on, that pieces you have made may be treasured family heirlooms.

Sorry, I drifted a bit there. A knife is just a knife, but as a gift to a friend, it does mean so much more...

Cool John!

I will post some pictures in the next few days - I have been using my gathering knife in the kitchen lately, a fine gift from a friend!

best regards -

I have been thinking something similar, I have a few set aside that came from people on the forum one way or another, I like that you can make a knife more valuable by giving it to someone.
