It has a really thin tip. I had never heard that the sus scrofa was a good slicer or anything relating to it's acuteness, but ya. it's pretty slicey.

Looking at the tip of the boss street compared to the SS, holy hell.. how did I break that? I'm a freakin' idiot.

I'm thinking of stripping the blade portion and thinning out the ricasso side of the main grind.

I took the reverse curve out of mine, then stripped it.

I wish I still had an original as well. It really is a great slicer, and gives great tip control.

I made the edge straight to make it a bit better in food prep and the kitchen.

probably it's final form, now with a much more even "behind the edge" thickness. Most of the mods I've seen straighten out the tip, and that's the part that makes this knife interesting for me, being so thin and with it's very subtle downward tilt. I have it modded so the second it meets where the original center of the dip was it goes straight to the handle.

I've always wondered why the SS has such a bad rep on here - is it bc of the looks or folks don't like sharpening a curved blade?

I'm assuming it's a pretty huge dark horse of a blade considering it's been offered at the company store for as long as I've been into Busse - I guess about a year now.

Anyway, it's definitely a specialized cutter - wasn't it originally for helicopter crews? I guess you'd want a hawkbill for slicing rope and webbing...

Love to see a Skinny ASH-sized version - same length and thickness.
 
I think that, much like the asymetrical edge, there is a lot of pushback because of well known standards. the idea of not having a belly, the tip not being centered or above center, and having the recurve all add up to something that feels "wrong" in the mind. I largely agreed with the sentiment, not wanting anything to do with it.

Until I got one in trade. The second I ran the tip across some cardboard I thought "coooooool". Thin point for dragging and entry, long straight edge thats always at the correct angle for slicing, little to no chance of the media being cut slipping up and away from the belly during cutting. you can't stab with it like you normally would, but I very rarely need to stab anything.

I can't think of anything to dislike about the knife (once it's sans choil).

you know, as a general abuser I'd go with the boss street, but as an edc all purpose knife used mostly for cutting - I prefer the ss. it's just so much more acute, especially in the tip. and I gotta say the straight edge is a suprisingly nice feature.
 
The thing that has me intrigued is the fact that the official name is "Mini Sus Scrofa". By implication, there must be a larger version out there somewhere.

I've always believed that there is only one of the "full sized" Sus Scrofas in existence, and it is carried by the Grim Reaper. It's the only explanation that makes sense.
