I just recieved a neck rig from Clay, and love it!! It's so nice and small, great retention, and light, along with a ti 42 being a perfect carry system. i will post more about it after i get a chance to use it some, but now for the odd part:
When I got the neck rig out of the box, I pulled one of my 42's out of my inverted-v sheath and pushed it in. It was a tad on the tight side at first, but not bad. It sort of slid in in steps, as if the holes in the handel were settling into there place in the sheath. The inverted-v feels the same way. Then i grabbed another 42 that i recently got, pushed it in, and it just slid right in and out, much smoother, but still with good retention. the differnce between the two knives was so great that it seemed they had different dimensions. It even seems to make a difference depending on which way the knife is facing. with the second 42, if the latch handel is up against the shorter, open side of the sheath, it slides the easiest, almost so easy i would be afraid to carry it that way...but, if i turn it around so the safe handel is along the short side of the sheath, the retention is absolutely perfect. The first 42 i tried is the same way in that facing one direction makes it easier to slide in, but to throw another twist to the story, the first 42 as some of you may remember is a manila style, thanks to BM warrantying it for me. I can't see how that would have any bearing on how easily it enters or draws from the sheath, but it is very obviously more difficult than the other 42. I know it's not the sheath because i get the exact same results when trying them in the inverted-v: the manila style 42 sorta snaps into place with fairly tight but good retention...and again, the 2nd 42 slides in and out much easier with mush looser retention. Well, thats all
Let me know what you think, could the handel dimensions on the 2 42's be so different?
And speaking of manila style bali's, i'm about to start another post asking which style people prefer, manila or bantagas...
thanks for any input!
