David, I don't think we will be much help on this one due to the fact that you own every Elmax Sawback that has been made. 🤣

Mister Brown, has a full working shop for his sheath making, adding liners would be a simple task with his skills.
Perhaps, but those scales look custom as they don't look like any standard black micarta I've ever seen. Lots of white in them. Very nice looking. If that's the case, that means a CNC mill was involved which is not a tool that'd be used in sheath making typically so far as I can tell. That's what made me think it was an outside job.

Maybe it's a nuclear option? But would liners ever show up with that? Maybe the scales were but the liners were added after.

Just curious is all as I've seen pics he has with many unique looking scales I've never seen as standard offerings. Again, could all be nuclear and he just bought a boatload.

Were these ever offered prior to the January offering this year?

Nice. Sure wish the Custom Shop were open for Regular folks.

This was Not Busse Custom Shop, I do not get special treatment. That would not be something Busse does as they have honor and are very fair to everyone.

I have to order, pay for and wait for every knife I buy to make sheaths with, just like anyone else.
This handle mod is all Buy Brown. :)

Full sheath working shop built slowly over many years. but my most advanced machine is still my KMG grinder, LOL
Not as easy as one would think.
The tube flaring is pretty difficult but I had a buddy make me some many years ago.

All done by me in my simple shop.

all the other Custom Shop saw backs were one off's in Ganzas

Pretty straight forward really
Drill out old tubes (be very careful and use a drill vice or bad things happen)
grind down factory micarta scales .125" ish by eye :) to make up for liner thickness.
These were standard black canvas on the production Elmax sawback
epoxy red g-10 to old scales
shape red liners to old scales
cut new tubes (be careful to get the right length)
press new tubes with custom flares
shape new scales to knife handle
scotch bright to blend

and tada red liners on black canvas and lots of assumptions :)

Many years ago the old HOGs would tweek and mod their Busse knives , ala Grinducchi , BanTang, AZ Tim and so on.
some went on to make their own knives.

I was Only Being quite as I have been pretty busy in the shop. Nothing to hide here :)

Also truth be told about why I did these.
My good friend here in UT loves black canvas w/Red liners and has been wanting some for years but with the Busse Custom shop being closed no such luck.

I took it on my self to make these for him. Hope he likes them :)

Haha, yes, lots of assumptions. Inquiring minds want to know!

Thanks for the very informative post. Really appreciate it! I'm the kid who always took things apart to see how they worked so I still have that mind of "I wonder how that's done?".

My line about being "real quiet" was meant only as a joke, sometimes the intent doesn't translate through text so I hope it didn't come across the wrong way. I figured you were probably just busy. My attempts at humor are a bit ham-fisted at times I admit! In retrospect, I probably should have added the winking and smiling face to not seem like I'm accusing you of anything. My apologies on that.

Nothing but respect and very well done!

I wasn’t really trying to make any assumptions and want to apologize to Mr Brown if I insulted his many talents and capabilities. I was only “Opining” for my own sake because I have neither the time, inclination or skill to make that happen like Mr. Brown did, and have it look really nice and professional.! I just like liners too and honestly wish I could order some. That’s all. Just strictly a wishful thinking thing. Have a great weekend everyone. And what an awesome job on the liners David, Congrats.

No Hard feeling on my end everybody. :)

Always busy in the shop or answering e-mails LOL.

Sorry if I come off short or curt sometimes I do not mean to be.

Thank you all for the kind words.
