As many of you know there has been some discussion here lately about the value of some knives, used .vs mint, markup percentage and things of that nature. It got me wondering a bit. Now I'll preface this by saying I in no way intend to invest in INFI in hopes that I'll get such a huge return on investment that I'll be able to retire off my earnings. Not saying it's a bad idea, I just feel a little safer with my current plan. For me, knife collecting as well as using and abusing them is enjoyable. I tend to purchase when I see something that I just have to have. You all know the feeling. You see it and know you just have to get one of those regardless of the cost. It's a disease I tell ya. One of the beauties of it is that unlike some of my other hobbies, I don't lose my ass to depreciation when I want to trade them for something else. So me being new to Busse, here's the question. If one were to look at their purchases based on profit margin alone what would be the better investment CG,SE or LE versions? Another question that comes to mind is has there been an instance that you long time Busse fans can remember where a particular knife actually dropped in value? I think it just helps me to know that after the next Ganzaa during which my credit card spontaneously combusts, I won't have buyers remorse worrying about not being able to trade for fair value down the road. It's my nature to get bored with certain pieces after a while and look for something else.

In my experience they don't decrease in value. In some cases they languish 'at cost'. But that all depends on the specific model. That is why I don't think it is dependent on whether it is CG, SE or LE. I think it depends more on the specific model and what buyers hold in demand. (Like the SFNO for example). The LE's are probably always a sure bet though as they are satin finish and always desired.

I have been drinking...
But I can say that I like to stock up on Busse when they are to be had.
I like to think of them as bars of gold, or even platinum.
When the stock market is a crashin'
You will find me fondling my INFI...:D

I think everyone's LE's are probably gonna drop in value sooner or later, so you should cut your losses now and sell em to me well below cost. :D:D:D

*Especially your FFBM LE's. Those things will NOT retain their value. I'll gladly take em off everyone's hands!

Given the current economic climate I think you would get a better return investing in Busse blades than a bank account. It seems that you can expect a 10-20% mark up on all knives from the store or a Ganzaa if you wait 6 months to sell. I can understand people buying 5 of one knife to sell 4 of them making enough profit to effectively get the 5th for free but for me I don't have the cash or the patience to do that. Buy what you like, keep it as a safe queen, sell it in 6 months to a year I can't see you loosing money.
I've only been watching Busse knives on the forums for a year so thats my short term opinion. Above all though the Busse community knows what a fair price is so if you play fair and only ask a reasonable mark-up I don't think you will go wrong. Heaven help you if you cross them though.
Good luck investing and happy collecting.

Yeah - that's quite the lineup!

I don't get it tho, SOW is just a recurve / clip point SFNO right? With all the hype the SFNO gets lately, you'd think the SOW would be sharing in some of the love!!!

I know when they were on the BCS not too long ago they got snatched up pretty quick...

I've seen prices go up, and down with a slow upward trend overall over the years.

Up the most have been the common coated users.

Early knives with LOGOs have done a little better, from back in the straight handle days.

Still those were Combat grade knives.

Early L.E.s while a little higher have not climbed by as high a percentage.

It goes up and down also kinda depends if a model gets re-released
that's kinda what happend the the AD's:grumpy:

:D Current market gains are no guarantee of future returns on your investment. :D As others have said i haven't seen and sell for under cost unless the seller wanted to do so or didn't know any better. Some have sat for long periods of time at cost (I have had a few like that in the past) but most make a profit. I do have to say that some of the prices have gone way higher than I am comfortable paying, but the influx of new collectors willing to pay a premium will do that. Which is good if you are trying to sell something especially on older piece. If you are looking to buy older pieces, you are paying a few hundreds dollars more for the same blades than you would have a year ago. That is one heck of a jump in my book. Things will level off I am sure. The market charges what it can bare. I sell pieces off to pay bills and to fund future purchases. If I had more income rest assure no one would have a chance to buy anything off of me over the last few years. :D It is hard to say what you ought to buy now, people's tastes change. Heck, had I know people would go gaga over the SFNO, I would have bought a dozen or so and been selling those instead of all the old straight handled stuff I had to let go.
