...not for profit. Oh, wait, none of my knives are for profit. :foot: :D

I posted this in Shop Talk, but I thought I'd copy it here.

A month or so ago, one of my friends hinted around that he might want me to make him a wallhanger sword. I told him what some swords go for, and he almost had a heart attack. :D
He doesn't know it yet, but I'm planning on giving him a sword, or just letting him pay what he can afford. At any rate, here it is, after forging, with no grinding done yet. The original drawing is next to it.

It's aluminum bronze, and the total length is about 29-1/2" I'm planning on doing a leather lace handle, with turks head knots at each end. Does anyone have a good tutorial for tying those?

I was feeling pretty burned out, trying to get ready for Blade, as well as filling orders, so I decided to take a day or two off from making knives, and work on this instead.

Very cool Phillip. You're friend is gonna love it. No tutorial but someone will chime in with one.

Knowing how your knives turn out, I know this is going to be very cool. I think it will look killer with the aluminum bronze too. I take it yo forged the bronze / Tell us a bit about that if you have the time Jim

Yes, it was forged. Alum bronze is a joy to forge. You have to be careful with the power hammer or you'll forge it too thin, too fast. It's like forging a stick of warm butter.

This was forged from some bar stock I had. It was 7/16" thick, and 2" wide.
This blade is 3" wide at the widest, and about 5/16" at the thickest.

I checked a sample with my Rockwell tester. It was about 25 RC where it was hot forged, and about 35 where I cold forged it. So I tried to cold work the edge a little, just to harden it up a little. This stuff is very strong, even when soft. It doesn't bend very easily.

It's aways good to take some time away from things when they get stressful.

That sword is a very interesting project.

thats fantastic! That bronze has a real neat look to it, and your grinds are perfect

I just finished it this morning, and I'll probably be giving it to my buddy this afternoon.

I settled on camel bone for the handle. What do you all think?

Dammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm thats nice and I think the bone works perfect with it. That is one sweet looking sword there BUDDY. LOL Jim

I'm going to have to reconsider who my friends are. I need more knifemaker and gunsmith friends...

oh yeah, I forgot to mention...that is very nice work.

I love bronze, and I have to say that's churning up more feelings of charging out onto an ancient battlefield than just about anything I've ever seen. Absolutely breathtaking, Phillip.

Gollygoshgeewillakers! That is a gorgeous blade!
