Here's one I've been working on while I'm out recovering. I call it the "Modern Nessmuk". It's now ready for heat treat. My scanner is dirty so you can't tell that I've finished it to 1500 grit! Yeah, 1500 grit before heat treat, but I wanted it to look good so there'll be little to do when I get it back.

It features a 6" blade of O-1, 1/4" thick. Tang is fully tapered to 3/32". This is the first knife that I attempted a tapered tang on.

When it comes back it will get Arizona Ironwood scales and brass fasteners. And some new photos!
Moderators can move this to the gallery if you want.

That's a fun shape, for sure! I like it. Almost persian.

Yeah, it looks like a little cutlass. Since the tang is tapered, all the weight of the 1/4" steel is up front at that bulb. It'll make a great little copper. Also, I rounded the spine so my thumb can easily pivot on it for carving purposes.

Very cool! kinda has a Scimitar look to it...one of my favorite blade shapes, that looks like it would make a perfect camp knife too! be sure to post the finished pics!

Hey that is a great shape! I'm looking forward to the finished product. Since it's O1, have you thought of doing your own HT? It's not that hard, you can build a Reil type forge for about $150, or less if you don't have to buy everything. Anyway, that's a great knife keep it going!

Thanks for the feedback guys, glad you like it. I've been thinking about trying my own heat treat, but since my "shop" in in someone else's basement, I think that would be pushing it. For now I'll just spend the $10.00 and send it to Lee Oates in Texas.
