While I have hurt my eye a few days ago and was trying to avoid the shop, staying in my room for Carnaval Sunday was not my idea of fun so to the shop I want and, while I did not went for heavy work, I modified a blade to test a new edge style (for me) and tested it a bit, and am very satisfied with the results. What I came up with was a full flat 5160 blade with a single edge bevel (like in the Emerson) of the same angle I use on my chisel ground knives. It was lighter and better balanced, very tough and cut like a razor. While I left the resto fo the blade at 60 grit, the edge was finished at 220 then polished bright on the wheel and you bet I´ll make more like this one!
Here is a scan of it with a BM CQC-7 for size comparison. I`ll take care of the handle in the next days,as soon as I can cut some of the weood I have at hand in slices. Today I had only ipê and last time I workid with it I had an alergic reaction that was not fun ( just ask thunderchiken!)
Overall, I am happy with it, as it solves some problems regarding the versatility of my designs without making me abandon the chisel ground that I like so much. Expect to see more of my knives full flat ground and sharpened like this.
