...there's not much to the knife itself (ATS34 and low carbon steel scales), but the engraving by Jim Small is absolutely masterful.

Beautiful! I don't know much about the cost of engraving, but my guess would be that the engraving on this knife would more than double the price. Would this be accurate?
 
Wow Don! That is a truly impressive knife. The engraving is absolutely beautiful and you're right it really makes this knife.

Very nice! Is it a folder? It looks kind of like a fixed blade to me, but I can't tell from the pics.
 
That's a very nice piece. Rare do we see an all-metal fixed blade.

That's a LOT of time involved in the engraving. I have handled knives where the cost of the engraving MORE than exceeded the initial cost of the knife. Not unusual.
