Last night, we went to the local Jefferson Barracks VA hospital theater for a talent show as part of the Veteran's Creative Arts competition. This is evidently a national affair with local groups competing and the winners eligible for the national competition.
From the attendance, audience response, and general level of enthusiasm, this is a very supportive bunch locally.
A friend of ours, a Frenchman who enlisted back in the 50s when he just had a green card (they told him it would make citizenship easier) was entered in the poetry division; he's a songwriter, poet, and writer.
A pretty good show. As you'd expect, some of the acts were long on enthusiasm... But most were actually quite good. The winner was a fellow who performed a self-penned song which he accompanied with a set of bongos!
With all we've heard about how vets are being treated, it's nice to see what are obviously some involved and caring people involved locally.
It occurs to me that I'm eligible; I might have to tote my cigar-box guitar over next year.....
