I was at church Sunday night and the preacher was talking about taking a splinter out from under his fingernail with his pocket knife.

After service some of us were standing around talking and I asked the preacher what pocket knife he carried. He pulled out a case mini copperhead. And then I showed him my case peanut. As we were talking one of the older gentleman of the church who is 83 and part of the male ensemble was watching us.

I walked over to talk with him and his wife he was talking about our Case knives and was standing there holding a Swiss army knife classic type made in China and complaining about how dull it was.

He acted very disappointed that he didn't have his own Case knife.

It just so happens the local gun shop has a bunch of used Case knives for sale, they all look unused. So I picked out a mini stockman. Walked into church Wednesday night handed him a nickel and said hold on to this for me. Even the preacher looked at me like I was crazy and asked me why. I said I'll tell you later. So after church just before ensemble practice I handed him the mini stockman and said that'll cost you a nickel. He was surprised and his face lit up like a kid in a candy shop. And then he tried to pay me for it I said you did, a nickel. He looks at his wife and says "hey he gave me Case knife for a nickel, a real Case knife, can you believe that"

Then I offered to take the China made one sharpen it and clean it for him and bring it back. He looked at me and said do I have to give the Case back then? I told him no he paid me for it.

I do this once in awhile. It ain't for bragging rights or to toot my own horn. It's just nice to see people smile and enjoy the simple things in life.

I'm sure a lot of you out there do these kind of things.

Let's hear about it.

Looking forward to some good stories.

God Bless

Wonderful story !!!
thanks for sharing

I've given away probably 80-100 knives in the last few years. It's just plain fun to do. Most like it, some look at you like you're trying to lure them to the dark side. Friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, scouts, and yes....strangers. Gifts, parties, just because it's Tuesday, whatever. You only need a willing target.

Ever try to give a knife away at the airport at the end of a trip? If not, try it..... absolutely hilarious.

Great story, joy certainly comes from giving joy to others! My handle here is Old Hunter because I love hunting, have most my life. My favorite way to gift a knife is to take a younger man hunting, one who is new to the sport. Lots to teach - gun safety, shooting skills, game law, woodcraft, etc. My favorite time comes when the fellow has killed his first deer and we’re ready to clean it - I’ll ask them to pull out their skinning/butchering knife - a very few have, but most just have a blank stare - that’s when I pull out a Buck Knife for them (usually an older 118 from my stash) - after cleaning I tell them to keep the knife for all their future deer hunts. I feel I’m passing the American legacy of free men hunting on that way - with the teaching and the knife. OH

Old Hunter, it used to be of I wasn't fishing I was scouting or small game hunting. I always had one, two or three of my kids with me. Heck my daughter ended up with pneumonia after a wet deer hunt. But neither of us would trade being out there together for anything.

2 years ago I injured my back and had surgery. Three doctors told me I shouldn't be walking but The Good Lord kept me up right and going through it all. I'm slowly working my way back into it and of course I caught a falling patient earlier this week and reinjured myself. Jumping through the hoops now. Hopefully I'll be set for this fall.

I've got a few German stag fixed blades set back for the grandkids. I feel that's the safest way for young ones to learn.

I gifted a guy at work a mora companion who is an avid hunter. He uses it and says how much he likes it and even made sure to cut himself with it.
