Something snapped in my Swift

I rotate a first gen swift in edc, and I opened it this morning and something snapped, and a thin metal bar flew out. It will not close now.

I called the number listed on the warranty page, dreading what it would mean that this happened now after the change in ownership.

Sure enough, I got super obnoxious GSM commercials while on hold, and then a guy saying he did not know if they would be repairing older cold steel knives. He advised I put the knife away and call back in 2 months to see if they would start repairing.

This is a knife I really like, in XHP and the original handle without the safety. I'm really not comfortable sending this to people who know nothing about those things. Any suggestions?

Not sure what they can do at this point, especially now with the whole GSM thing. Spring failure was a known issue on the Swifts early on.

It can be de-assisted by cutting off the spring. It's all one piece which includes the two springs. The spring for the assist and the spring for the lockbar. On yours, what probably broke is the lockbar spring.
Really sucks that "new" Cold Steel isn't taking care of it.

surely they would replace it then...right?
I assumed this kinda problem would be similar to marrying someone and having to take on their credit card bills, but maybe I’m waaaay off.

That's kind of the issue. It's the older style and I don't want the new style. I just want the lockbar fixed.

Ive seen a few videos on YouTube on how to deassist it. Just cant remember which gen it was for, first or second.
